REVISED Morning Announcements 9/26/17 Good Morning MHS, Today is a Y day New: • First College Ambassadors meeting will be held after school tomorrow 9/27/17 in the College and Career Center • Newspaper Club will have an open meeting in Room 334 today, Tuesday, September 26th, immediately after school If your interested, please attend • The PSAT will be given at Middletown High School on Saturday, October 14th This test is a practice for the SAT for college-bound sophomores and juniors in particular, but can be taken by any grade level The cost is $16, and there are a limited number of fee waivers for juniors only Sign up in House by October 10th at the latest • The SAT exam is given times during the school year For students who are eligible for a fee waiver, you can still register for the October test until September 27th The next test dates are November and December 2, but the registration deadlines are much sooner See your counselor for registration information and deadlines or visit the website at sat.org • Science Club will meet Thursday in Room 360 See Mr Blon or Ms Frank for details • The College Ambassador Club will be meeting this Wednesday! o All students are welcome to attend! o Please meet after school in the College & Career Center o The following colleges will be visiting MHS next week o SUNY New Paltz o Monroe College o SUNY Brockport o SUNY Geneseo o Dominican College o University of Buffalo o SUNY Maritime o College of Saint Rose o Clarkson University o SUNY Delhi o Hartwick College o Keuka College o Please visit the College & Career Center to schedule an appointment with the college representatives • The Key Club supply donation for hurricane victims will continue until October 6, 2017 Please contact Emily Pacella if you have any questions Thank you! • The Key Club will meet after-school on Thursday 9/28 Location TBA- check back • Congratulations to Cheyanne Bailey for taking 1st place in Diving vs Kingston last night! 222.00 Old: • Middletown High School is hosting a Constitutional Oratorical Contest The winner will be eligible to continue in the American Legion's renowned oratorical contest and earn a prize of up to $6,000 The local American Legion has offered a prize of $100 dollars for the winner of our local contest The contest will be held on Saturday, 14 October Participants must sign-up by Friday, October If you are interested, see Commander Wall in room 102 with questions • Attention A Capella Club members! Everybody Dance Now!!! • GRADUATING SENIORS: ORDER YOUR CAP AND GOWN EARLY!please stop by your House for a form or room 226 for form and to make payment The cost of Cap & Gown is $ 35.00 through the end of January • Every year the American Legion conducts a prestigious national oratorical contest Contests start at the local level and progress through successive levels at the county, district, zone, and state levels to qualify for the ultimate contest—the Nationals At each level the winner will advance and different cash prizes are awarded This year, Middletown High School will participate by hosting a local contest and the winner(s) will be nominated to continue to the county level The winner will receive a cash prize of $100 Guidance and rules are available at http://www.legion.org/oratorical o Summary of rules o • Contestants shall present a prepared oration, which may be written before delivery and may be read or memorized o • The oration must be on some phase of the constitution of the United States which will give emphasis to the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government o • The oration shall be not less than eight (8), nor more than ten (10) minutes in length o • Business attire (coat and tie for men, the equivalent for women) is required for participants Contestants shall not appear in uniform o • The contest will be judged by an impartial panel All judgments are final A judgment of “no contest” may be returned indicating that, in the judges’ collective opinion, no contestant was sufficiently prepared to warrant the school’s nomination to continue to the next higher level In this case, no prize will be awarded o Contestants are encouraged to visit the official American Legion website for authoritative information Questions can be addressed to Commander Wall in room 102 If you are interested you must complete and submit a sign –up sheet not later than Thursday, October 2017 Sign-up sheets are available in the NJROTC classroom (room 102) • The following colleges will be visiting MHS Next week: o o SUNY Oneonta Mount Saint Mary College o Please visit the College & Career Center to schedule an appointment with the college representatives • Wrestling intramurals will begin on Monday September 18th at 2:45 in the weight room If you have any questions see Coach Lichtenstein in the Boys' PE locker room • • The following will be visiting MHS in September: • • • • • SUNY Oneonta Mount Saint Mary College Please visit the College & Career Center to schedule an appointment with the college representatives Sports Medicine Club: general interest meeting Sept 19th 245pm in the Athletic Training Room Expressions Literary Magazine will be having its first meeting on Thursday September 14th at 2:30 in room 256 Come and see what this awesome club is all about We end the meetings in time for the 3:30 bus!
