SENCER Center for Innovation‒Southwest Spring 2017 Regional Symposium SAVE THESE DATES: Thursday February 2, 2017 1:00-5:00 Friday February 3, 2017 8:30-12:30 Expanding Civic Capacity: Connecting learning to critical real-world issues through teacher preparation and faculty development The 2017 regional symposium will focus on use of SENCER* in two sessions: ▪ Using SENCER to Prepare STEM Teachers ▪ Your Tenure-Track Career and SENCER Presenters will be nationally known leaders in the SENCER community, which has recently been recognized as a Community of Transformation in higher education Participants will ▪ See/hear applications of SENCER methods to a variety of STEM content areas for teacher preparation ▪ Learn practical ways of assessing SENCER courses ▪ Gain expertise in teaching multidisciplinary topics ▪ Acquire new strategies to use in meeting tenure-track career goals ▪ Network with experienced SENCER faculty from other disciplines/institutions Texas Woman’s University facilitators include: Karen Dunlap, Teacher Education Rebecca Fredrickson, Teacher Education Cynthia Maguire, Chemistry and Biochemistry Nasrin Mirsaleh-Kohan, Chemistry and Biochemistry Ann Stuart Science Complex Texas Woman’s University, Denton *SENCER (supported by NSF) improves education and student learning by connecting classroom knowledge to critical real-world issues through civic engagement, and facilitates faculty expertise through symposia and workshops
