What is College Credit Plus (CCP)? Ohio’s dual enrollment program, allows eligible 7th – 12th grade college-ready students to earn high school and college credit at the same time – Earn up to 30 credit hours (high school & college) in an academic year; 120 max – One 3+ credit hour college course = One high school unit What is College Credit Plus (CCP)? • Apply to any public or participating private college/university • Enroll in summer, fall and spring semesters – Note: Summer begins the academic year! • Graduating seniors are ineligible • Does not count towards athletic eligibility • Courses offered on campus, online or possibly at the high school What are the benefits? • Earn high school and college credit at same time – Additional course options and academic challenge – College grade is added to HS transcript Same weight as AP, Honors, etc – Grades and GPA from YSU remain on your YSU transcript – Credits, not grades, may be transferable with other colleges https://transfercredit.ohio.gov What are the benefits? • Access to all college academic support services – Academic Advisor, Writing Center, Mathematics Assistance Center, E-tutoring, Library, Disability Services • Continued access to your HS counselor • Head start on college degrees or certificates • Experience college early to understand the expectations of college life What are the benefits? • No cost at public colleges and universities for tuition, required fees and textbooks – Parking and Transportation costs are covered by the student/family • Also, at YSU you receive… – Free ticket to any home athletic event – Access to Campus Recreation Center • Must be at least 16 years old and sign a waiver form – $45 Application fee is waived for New Freshman Application Considerations and Consequences • If a student fails, or withdraws late, from the college course, the district may seek reimbursement for tuition and textbook costs from the student/family • Enroll in more than 30 credit hours for the year, then the student either – Drops a course – Self-pays for the course (includes tuition, fees, and books at the college rate) Considerations and Consequences • Grades can affect high school and college GPA – Think scholarships after HS graduation – Failing a course could prevent HS graduation – Grade remains on the YSU transcript • CCP Probation or Dismissal by the high school or college can occur Considerations and Consequences • CCP Probation: Earns less than a 2.0 cumulative COLLEGE GPA or withdraws from or more courses in a term – may enroll in only one course for the term; cannot be in the same content area which a D or F was previously earned • CCP Dismissal: Occurs when a student does not raise their GPA to a 2.0 or above; cannot enroll in any college courses • CCP Appeal Process: Determined by the school Considerations and Consequences • End of course exams still needed (if required) • Under 14 years old, a parent/guardian must accompany while on campus • Students taking class on campus pay for parking • Athletes – review the OSHAA requirements • HS and college calendars not match – Start/End dates, snow days, holidays, spring breaks may differ • Difference between HS and College YSU Eligibility Test - Accuplacer • Free assessment for students who have NOT • taken the ACT/SAT OR • met the ACT Composite 17 or SAT combined score of 910 • Students test in English, Math and Reading and must meet the scores listed • Students who are eligible, but still not meeting course placement requirements, will be offered YSU placement exams YSU Eligibility Test Registration & Deadline • How students register? – Call the CCP office at 330-941-2447 or email ccp@ysu.edu – Provide name, address, phone, email address and school district • Deadline to complete - March 29, 2019 Step Two: Apply for Admission • Students apply for admission to the college/university they are interested in – Can apply to more than one – Contact each to learn about their processes, paperwork and deadlines • College/University has the final decision on student admission YSU CCP Admission Requirements • College-ready 7th – 12th grade students • At least 2.0 cumulative unweighted GPA • Minimum 17 composite ACT or SAT evidence-based writing/reading and math combined score of at least 910 • College ready benchmark met in at least one area (ACT English 18, ACT Reading 22, or ACT Math 22) • Passage of state exams (if required) *Admission does NOT guarantee course placement; requirements vary by course!* Step Three: Course Placement • Eligible students who are admitted have to meet course placement requirements to enroll – Meet with an advisor/counselor to discuss options – May not be able to enroll in any courses • New CCP students are limited to Level I courses for the first 15 credit hours • Certain courses are non-allowable under CCP YSU CCP Course Placement • Must meet College Readiness Benchmarks – ACT sub scores: E 18, M 22, R 22 – Some math/science require a higher Math score – Some courses not require a Math score at all • ACT/SAT scores; highest score used regardless of test/date • Make sure all scores are sent to YSU CCP Office • Students not meeting the benchmarks may take placement tests at YSU to try to qualify What courses can students enroll in? • Must complete “First 15” credits in Level I Courses, which include: – Transferable courses – Computer science, information technology, anatomy or physiology, and foreign language – Courses in study skills, academic or career success • After the First 15 is completed, can enroll in the majority of the course catalog provided course prerequisites are met • View YSU’s Level I Course List on www.ysu.edu/ccp What courses are not allowed? • One-on-one private instruction, including but not limited to instrumental music, voice or art • Courses for which college course fees that exceed $750 • Study abroad or similar course • Physical education course • Courses graded on a pass/fail or satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis unless the course is transferable • Remedial or religious courses How I apply?
