REQUEST AND RECOMMENDATION Youngstown State University Master of Athletic Training Request: Youngstown State University requests authorization to offer the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) degree Background: Youngstown State University is a public university located in Youngstown, Ohio Established in 1908, the university today serves over 11,000 undergraduate students and nearly 2,000 graduate students The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission until its next review in 2018 Curriculum and Enrollment: The Master of Athletic Training consists of 60 credit hour program Students will be able to obtain the MAT degree through a 4+1 program (for students without a bachelor’s degree) or a traditional graduate program The curriculum includes coursework in therapeutic exercise, pharmacology, and multiple practicum experiences The culminating experience of the MAT program is a capstone research project The university projects that enrollment will grow from 12 fill time graduate students in the first year to 24 full time graduate students by the beginning of the fifth year Faculty and Resources: The university has adequate faculty and staff in place to support the Master of Athletic Training program Additional faculty and staff will be hired as needed due to enrollment growth Recommendation: After review of the proposal, the Chancellor’s Council on Graduate Studies determined that the Master of Athletic Training meets the Chancellor’s standards for graduate degree programs and unanimously voted to recommend approval Authorization will be withdrawn if, in the Chancellor’s judgement, the Youngstown State University fails to continue to meet the Chancellor’s standards for graduate degree programs or is sanctioned by the Higher Learning Commission 25 South Front Street Columbus, Ohio 43215 phone 614.466.6000 fax 614.466.5866 web www.OhioHigherEd.org
