Monday, June 8, 2020 Dear PPS Families, Friday, June 12 will be our last day of school for the 2019-2020 school year As we prepare to end this very unique school year, I want to congratulate the Class of 2020 whom will be graduating this weekend As so eloquently said by Booker T Washington, a leading African American intellectual of the 19 century and founder of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (Now Tuskegee University) in 1881, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” I am confident that by the way this year’s graduates handled the obstacles and disappointments of their senior year, each of them are ready to achieve their future goals and make their mark in Pittsburgh and around the world Technology Distribution – 6th and 7th Grade Students in Need Families with students in 6th and 7th grade identified as needing technology at home will be contacted by their child’s teacher or principal regarding distribution this week The District is working to provide every child with technology at home and is currently distributing technology based on available equipment and grade-level need Please contact your child’s teacher or principal if your child needs technology at home Any student or family member picking up a laptop during this week's distribution should be wearing a face-covering, such as a mask, scarf, or bandana, and follow all social distancing protocols Virtual Education Committee Meeting – Tuesday, June Please tune in to the virtual Education Committee meeting beginning at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, June To view the meeting, visit our website at www.pghschools.org An update will be provided on charter school renewals, graduation, device distribution, and the All In to Reopen Our Schools work that launches this week Virtual Graduation, 5th and 8th Grade Promotions The District is holding virtual graduation and th and 8th-grade promotion ceremonies Dates for virtual high school graduations are available online at www.pghschools.org/graduation Links to the 2020 virtual graduation ceremonies will be shared with our seniors and their families in the next few weeks and posted online All commencement ceremonies can also be viewed on PCTV Promotion ceremonies for 8th-grade students will be held on Thursday, June 11, and 5th-grade promotions will be held on Friday, June 12 All 5th and 8th grade promotions can be viewed by clicking the links in the Upcoming Event Calendar and Announcement section on the District’s home page Four more days until school is out for summer!
