Pacific University Smoking and Tobacco Use Policy I.32 Smoking and Tobacco Use Campus Policy Policy Statement: The purpose and intent of this policy is to create an environment that is consistent with Pacific University’s commitment to improve the health and wellness of its community Application: Pacific University prohibits smoking anywhere on Pacific University campuses This includes all Pacific‐owned or controlled properties and events on the Hillsboro, Forest Grove, Woodburn and Eugene campuses This policy prohibits smoking on all Pacific University grounds, outdoor areas, vehicles, parking lots, and inside any personal vehicles parked on the property Smoking includes, but is not limited to the use of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookah, and any other smoked or smoldering substances The use of nicotine delivery devices such as e‐cigarettes is prohibited under this policy on all Pacific University campuses In addition to the prohibitions listed above, the Hillsboro, Woodburn, and Eugene campuses also prohibit the use of all other tobacco products, including, but not limited to, snuff and chewing tobacco The sale or distribution of tobacco products of any kind is not permitted on Pacific University owned or controlled properties Pacific University is committed to assisting employees, students, visitors, patients and others in the university community who are interested in reducing or eliminating their use of tobacco products Pacific University has resources available to assist with tobacco use reduction or cessation Students may obtain information and resources regarding cessation from Student Life Employees may obtain such information and resources from Human Resources and the Employee Assistance Program Announcements and signs shall be conspicuously posted on all Pacific University properties so that the prohibitions and expectations of this policy are clear to students, employees, and visitors This policy shall be included in all appropriate university publications including employment handbooks, student handbooks, and related policy and procedure manuals University offices shall make efforts to inform employees, students, patients, visitors, and contractors of the policy before they arrive on campus Enforcement of this policy is considered to be a shared responsibility among Pacific University faculty, staff and students Students and employees are encouraged to politely remind tobacco users of the requirements of the policy To assist with reminding persons about the policy, Tobacco‐ Free Campus cards are available from the HPC, Eugene, and Woodburn Administration Offices Smoke‐Free cards are available from Human Resources in Forest Grove Campus Public Safety, Student Life and Human Resources are available to respond to specific incidents of non‐compliance or reoccurring offenses Any person who repeatedly violates this policy may be asked to leave, or if necessary, may be removed from university premises Persons violating this policy may be subject to disciplinary action through the Student Code of Conduct or Human Resources Pacific University Smoking and Tobacco Use Policy – March 10, 2014
