PROJECT ABSTRACT Title: The University of Vermont (UVM) Clinical Psychology Internship Program (CPIP): Developing Vermont’s Behavioral Workforce to Support At-Risk Youth and Families; Organization Name: University of Vermont; Address: Colchester Ave, Burlington, VT 05405-0134; PI: Karen Fondacaro, Ph.D.; Phone #: 802-656-2661; Fax: 802-656-3485; Email Address: Karen.Fondacaro@uvm.edu; Program Funds Requested: $370,286 DISCIPLINE: Clinical Psychology, doctoral BRIEF OVERVIEW: Vermont faces a severe, growing need for mental health services for children, adolescents, and transitional age youth and their families, including refugees Because the 11 designated community agencies that provide the overwhelming majority of mental health services to this population are unable to meet this need, it is imperative to increase the state’s workforce of behavioral health professionals At-risk populations have complex needs, so the behavioral workforce supporting this population needs to be highly trained and versed in efficacious and effective evidence-based practices and integrated inter-professional practice models The UVM CPIP is a pre-doctoral program in Clinical Psychology offering integrated training at the UVM Department of Psychology Behavior Therapy and Psychotherapy Center (BTPC) and the UVM Department of Psychiatry Vermont Center for Children, Youth, and Families (VCCYF) The UVM CPIP is the only training program in Vermont that offers advanced professional training in evidence-based, culturally-informed, interdisciplinary mental health treatment of at risk populations The CPIP is innovative because it (1)is an integrated program between Psychology and Psychiatry, (2)has a large inter-disciplinary training component, (3)has a large training component in culturally competent practice, and (4)includes a large training component in family-based prevention and intervention To respond to the severe shortage of well-trained behavioral health professionals to serve the at-risk population of Vermont, the overall aim of the proposed project is to increase Vermont’s behavioral workforce capacity by boosting the development of the CPIP: Goal 1: Successfully Recruit and Train CPIP Interns Objective 1: To continue successful recruitment of interns through the APPIC Match Objective 2: To continue successful training of interns through the BTPC-VCCYF inter-professional partnership Goal 2: Develop and Expand CPIP Inter-professional Strategic Planning and Training Experiences Objective 1: To strengthen existing relationships between CPIP and other organizations supporting at-risk children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth and families Objective 2: To develop new inter-professional collaborations and training experiences through years 2-3 Goal 3: Enhance the Diversity of CPIP Interns and Staff Objectives 1-2: To increase CPIP intern (Obj 1) & staff (Obj 2) diversity via multiple strategies Goal 4: Incorporate Families in Prevention & Treatment of Behavioral Health Conditions Objectives 1-2: To provide interns with didactic and practical training in familybased prevention (Obj 1) and intervention (Obj 2) Goal 5: Effectively Evaluate Program Outcomes and Disseminate Project Results Objective 1: To effectively evaluate CPIP program outcomes Objective 2: To effectively disseminate project results Goal 6: Enhance the Organizational Sustainability of the CPIP Objective 1: To successfully execute the current CPIP Sustainability plan (Yr 1) Objective 2: To develop additional, revenue-yielding rotation sites with community partners (Yrs 2-3)
