UC Safety and Reform: Update and Discussion November 10, 2015 Robin S Engel, Ph.D Vice President for Safety and Reform University of Cincinnati Campus Safety • When you think of campus safety, what issues come to mind? • What is the role of campus police? • Unique safety issues: – Title IX – Clery Act and other federal reporting requirements – Different demographic population – Active shooter – Students who live off campus – jurisdictional overlap – MOU & Mutual Aid Agreement UCPD 101: Introduction • 72 Police Officers; full police authority • 26 Security Officers • Canines • Patrol via foot, Segway, vehicle, bicycle & motorcycle • Routine patrols – On campus (Uptown, Blue Ash & Clermont) – Neighborhoods surrounding Uptown campus • Full Jurisdiction on UC owned and operated buildings UCPD Timeline Prior to July 19, 2015 2008 ↑ crime MOU signed July 2013 June 2014 Nov 2014 July 2015 Cureton resigned;
