ART IN PUBLIC PLACES About the Artist: James Allen • • James Allen was born in 1977 in Illinois He earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2000 Currently he lives and works in Portland, Oregon Allen's artwork is included in Art Made From Books: Altered, Sculpted, Carved, Transformed published by Chronicle books His work was exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum in The Book Borrowers: Contemporary Artists Transforming the Book in 2009 His Book Excavations can be found in Public collections at UCLA, Johns Hopkins University, Ringling College of Art and Design, University of Puget Sound, University of Colorado Boulder, Baylor University, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee He's also exhibited across the country in New York, Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee, Portland, teaching experiences in the United States and Europe Her exhibition history includes both solo and group shows throughout the Pacific Northwest About the Artist: Narsiso Martinez • Narsiso Martinez (b 1977, Oaxaca, Mexico) came to the United States when he was 20 years old He attended Evans Community Adult School and completed high school in 2006 at the age of 29 He earned an Associate of Arts degree in 2009 from Los Angeles City College In the fall of 2012 Narsiso earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University Long Beach In the spring of 2018 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from California State University Long Beach, and was awarded the prestigious Dedalus Foundation MFA Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture His work has been exhibited both locally and internationally Martinez lives and works in Long Beach, CA About the Artist: Nicole Pietrantoni • Nicole Pietrantoni received her MFA and MA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa and her BS in Human and Organizational Development and Art History from Vanderbilt University Nicole is an Associate Professor of Art at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington • She is the recipient of numerous awards including a Fulbright to Iceland, an Artist Trust Fellowship, a Larry Sommers Printmaking Fellowship, a Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Grant, the Manifest Prize, and a Graves Award for Excellence in Humanities Research and Teaching About the Artist: Christie Tirado • Christie Tirado graduated from the University of Washington in 2013 with her BA in interdisciplinary Visual Arts, and her MIT in Elementary Education from Heritage University in 2016 She is currently a K-8 Art Teacher in the Yakima Valley • Christie has developed online educational opportunities through Art
