SERVICES The first time I arrived on the UOW campus I was mesmerised – it’s a truly beautiful university UOW supports exchange students and makes you feel welcome The things I enjoyed most about my time at UOW were the Australian culture, the sense of community, the nature, the people and the beaches The people are super kind, it’s not too big or too small, and it starts to feel like a second personal approach From the day you become a UOW student, you can expect guidance and support Academic support There are a range of religious services on and off campus, including a Muslim prayer space, the Omar Mosque near the University, the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple in nearby Berkeley and the Sri Venkateswara Hindu Temple Student-based religious clubs include the Buddhist Society, Chinese international undergraduate or postgraduate students who wish to spend one or two semesters in a program of study at the University of Wollongong and transfer the credits to their home institution For application procedure information see page 31 STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM The Study Abroad program is designed to welcome students to UOW from both formally recognised study abroad partners and non-affiliated institutions for one or two semesters Study Abroad students pay tuition fees directly to UOW for their program of study at UOW INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM The University of Wollongong has established formal exchange agreements with a number of leading universities worldwide This program allows a limited number of students to study at UOW for one or two semesters Exchange students are not required to pay tuition fees to UOW Refer to the list of exchange partners on pages 32-33, and contact your home university for more information The Business Internship program is designed to offer students undertaking any business or commerce degree with the opportunity to add a Work Integrated Learning Experience to their study The COMM391 subject supports the program with the required theory and concepts to enhance what is learned during the internship To be admitted into this program, students are required to go through a competitive recruitment process, including a written application, video and Skype interviews with potential employers Students interested in applying for the program will need to advise the Office of Global Student Mobility in advance Only if the timing of submission is in accordance with the specific program recruitment times will applications be considered Successful students are required to enrol in at least one other subject from the Faculty of Business along with COMM391, and one or two other UOW subjects to make up a full-time study load More information on the Business Internship Program can be found at uow.edu.au/business/internships VISITING RESEARCH PROGRAM The Visiting Research Program is designed for students undertaking research at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level who are currently enrolled full-time at an overseas university and wish to obtain research experience with a UOW research team This program is usually between three and six months in duration and must be a formal requirement for the degree at the student’s home university Securing a UOW academic supervisor is the responsibility of the applicant Participants must contact the relevant UOW faculty or school to gain the support of a member of UOW academic staff to supervise their project PLANNING A PROGRAM OF STUDY Study Abroad and Exchange students enrol for one or two sessions as a non-award student at UOW The year is broken into semesters, with UOW taking enrolments in Session (February) or Session (July) If you are studying a postgraduate business program through UOW Sydney Business School, either in Sydney or Wollongong, your sessions are trimesters and start in February, May and August As part of your application to study at UOW, you will be required to submit a Study Plan This is a list of proposed UOW subjects that will be assessed based on your academic background prior to your arrival Every effort will be made to obtain approval of your selected subjects, however this is not guaranteed You’ll need to be flexible with your subject selection, and be prepared with additional subject choices Academic advice on your study program is available from UOW staff during orientation week We advise that you bring a current transcript of your academic record from your home university or college, as well as subject outlines and descriptions It is your responsibility to ensure that the proposed program will earn the credits needed to satisfy the degree requirements of your home university or college CHOOSING SUBJECTS The subject information in this prospectus should be used as a guide only For further information on subjects, please visit uow.info/solss/subjects You can choose by the subject codes on pages 21–29, or by entering part of a subject name Undergraduate students choose subject codes between 100–400 (i.e 1st – 4th year subjects) Postgraduate students choose subject codes between 800–900 SUBJECT AVAILABILITY When choosing subjects, note that many subjects at the Wollongong campus are ONLY offered in either Session (February) or Session (July) Postgraduate business subjects are offered by UOW’s Sydney Business School at the Wollongong and Sydney campuses
