Additional Note New Jersey Institute of Technology – Master of Architecture I PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) at NJIT is a post-baccalaureate professional program, fully accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) The six-semester 102-credit program is intended for applicants who have earned a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or a graduate degree in a field other than architecture who wish to earn a degree leading toward professional licensure as an architect Candidates entering the Professional M Arch program complete a required core sequence covering architectural history, integrated building systems, and digital design and representation applications as a series of progressive and cumulative corequisites for the first four design studios After completion of this mandatory core sequence, M.Arch students enter the advanced options sequence, in which students are given a selection of design studios in each semester, along with additional elective courses to round out their professional education A shortened program is available through advanced placement for applicants who have a pre-professional Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Architecture or another field directly related to architecture, or students who have a Bachelor of Architecture from a non-NAAB accredited program (all international students) Admission Requirements In addition to completing forms required by NJIT's Office of University Admissions, applicants must also submit to the School of Architecture supplementary application forms and materials To ensure prompt consideration, students should request these materials from the graduate program in architecture at the time they first apply for admission to the university Applicants are expected to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0; Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required Admission to the M Arch program is evaluated through consideration of the applicant's personal statement, three (3) letters of recommendation, design portfolio and previous academic and work experience TOEFL scores are required for all students from international colleges or universities at which the primary language of instruction was not English Degree Requirements The 102-credit program consists of a core sequence and an options sequence There are required and elective courses within both the core and options sequences Candidates are expected to complete the core sequence in two years Before registering for courses, all students must consult with the graduate advisor to plan an appropriate program of study Core Sequence (72 Credits) Additional Note Core courses in the M Arch represent the minimum background necessary to meet NAAB standards If students demonstrate that they have already taken equivalent course work, degree credits for those courses are waived in the 102-credit total required for the program, and they are then given advanced placement http://design.njit.edu/master-architecture/ II DEADLINE NJIT employs rolling admissions, so your application will be evaluated once your application is complete The following application deadlines have been established for the upcoming terms: APPLICATION TYPE FALL SPRING Ph.D December 15 October 15 Master's - International May November 15 Master's - Domestic June November 15 Master's - Online August November 15 International Applicants It is recommended that international students begin the application process six months prior to the start of the semester to allow sufficient time for processing international credentials and applying for a student visa http://www.njit.edu/admissions/grad-dates-deadlines III.ADMISSION REQUIREMENT  Applicants are expected to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0; Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required http://design.njit.edu/master-architecture/ The minimum score required is 79 for the Internet-based TOEFL exam, 213 for the computer-based TOEFL exam, or 550 for the paper-based TOEFL exam A minimum score of 6.5 with no sub-score lower than 6.0 is required for the IELTS exam http://www.njit.edu/admissions/masters-programs IV PROCESS & MAILING ADDRESS  NJIT is a member of The Common Application    Apply online at www.commonapp.org $75 nonrefundable application fee Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended Admission to the M Arch program is evaluated through consideration of the Additional Note      applicant's personal statement, three (3) letters of recommendation, design portfolio and previous academic and work experience TOEFL scores are required (GRE/TOEFL/GMAT/IELTS results) for all students from international colleges or universities at which the primary language of instruction was not English  Test score reports must be received directly from ETS using the university code 2513 http://www.njit.edu/admissions/graduate-faqs http://design.njit.edu/master-architecture/ How long will it take to process my application? As this is a second professional degree, you should supplement a statement on your educational background, experiences related to architecture,  Additional Note and anticipated career goals which would be met by continued studies in the field with a program of study and potential thesis topic, in 300–500 words  MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES (M.S.A.S.) The Master of Science is intended to extend an individual’s educational experiences toward areas of research It is critical that you define a specific set of goals related to a potential thesis topic  MASTER IN INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING, POST-PROFESSIONAL DEGREE (M.I.P.)
