Accreditation Period: 2019-2023 STONY BROOK MEDICINE DEPARTMENT of OBSTETRICS and GYNECOLOGY and REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE STONY BROOK, NEW YORK WILLIAM M BURKE, MD, FACOG Program Director TODD R GRIFFIN, MD, FACOG Associate Program Director FACULTY Jennifer M Blaber, MD Xun (Julie) Lian, MD John R Wagner, MD Gabrielle Gossner, MD Christine A Conway, MD XUN (JULIE) LIAN, MD Associate Program Director Optional Degrees: Residency Program Affiliation: Computer Simulation Center: Office Surgery: Contract/Agreement Letter: Accept J1 & H1Visa applicants Dedicated Research Hours: -Yea r Pr o gr a m MPH MBA MS Other: None Number of Faculty GYN Faculty: UROGYN Faculty: REI Faculty: ONCOLOGY Faculty: GU Faculty: General Surgery Faculty: Colorectal Faculty: Other: Yes No Yes No Training Labs Cadaver lab Animal Lab None Dry Lab Robotics Yes No Yes No Stipend PGY-5 or 6: Yes No Resident Teaching Yes No Benefit Package: Yes No OB obligation: Yes No If yes, please describe obligation Obstetric service call per month Junior Faculty: Yes No Attending Privileges: Yes No Moonlighting: Yes No Non-compete clause: Yes No Malpractice: Yes No Meeting support: Yes No Malpractice tail coverage: Other coverage obligations- specify: Yes No GYN service call a month Yes No Hours/per week: Hours/per month: 32 Protected Academic: Hours/per week: Hours/per month: 16 Clinical Focus/Special Interest Reproductive Surgery Endometriosis/Pelvic Pain Robotic Surgery Hysteroscopic Surgery Oncology Pelvic Reconstruction Pediatric/Adolescent Other: Uterine Fibroids 1.24.20 Description of Program: This is a 2-year fellowship that incorporates clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities at Stony Brook Medicine The overall goal is to graduate a fellow who, upon completion of the program, will have the necessary skills to succeed in a career in academic medicine The Minimally Invasive Surgery/ Advanced Laparoscopy Fellowship will focus on surgical approaches to gynecology It is a high-volume practice that will cover the entire gamut of vaginal surgery, advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and robotics and their applications in benign gynecology, reproductive endocrinology/infertility, and urogynecology In addition, a unique aspect of this fellowship program is the fellow will receive training in gynecologic ultrasound to aid in their treatment approach to patients A goal of the fellowship program is also for the fellow to become AIUM certified The fellow will have ample experience in interpreting pelvic MRls to assist in surgical planning The start date of the fellowship will be July 1st with clinical responsibilities beginning on July 15th The fellow will rotate with experienced gynecologic surgeons at two institutions, Stony Brook Medicine and Huntington Hospital Training encompasses knowledge and operative skills in the fields of benign gynecology, reproductive endocrinology/infertility, and pelvic floor disorders The fellows will be operating on average days per week One day will be spent in the office, a half-day in Gyn ultrasound and one additional day will be slated for research/educational venues Additional training will include integration of pelvic ultrasounds and advanced imaging modalities in evaluation of gynecologic patients The fellow will also attend the National meeting of the AAGL As part of the fellow's scholarly commitment they will be expected to present at a Departmental Grand Rounds and will participate and lead divisional research projects The fellows will have teaching responsibilities as they relate to the training of obstetrics and gynecology residents, medical students, as well as community faculty The Fellow will serve as a junior attending with intermittent service and call responsibilities As a junior faculty member of an academic medical center, the fellow will have the advantage of being exposed to a wide variety of resources These resources include the Health Sciences Center Library, a Departmental Research Division, Department of Public Health (including access to biostaticians), experts in Gynecologic Pathology, and an Institutional Simulation Center As part of the fellows training they will attend laparoscopic animal and cadaver labs, will assist in the teaching of pelvic anatomy to medical students, and will have access to a laparoscopic and surgical skills lab with which they can hone their own skills as well as use to teach residents and students the basic concepts of laparoscopy The fellow is expected to participate in research and present that research at national and/or local meetings Submission to peer-reviewed manuscripts is expected
