April GOOD NEWS from the Board of Education meeting! *Shawn Best, a PCMS student, placed third in the school's Spelling Bee and will be recognized for his accomplishment Shawn is a 7th grader at Pamlico County Middle School *Two Pamlico County High School students have been selected to attend Governor’s School 2009 Mark Alan MacIntyre was chosen in the area of Mathematics He is the son of Charles and Myranett MacIntyre of Oriental Macy Elizabeth Williamson was selected as an alto in the area of Choral Music She is the daughter of Glenn and Jill Williamson of Bayboro Both will attend Governor’s School East located at Meredith College in Raleigh The Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation The program, which is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in the performing/visual arts area, is located on two campuses of 400 students each: Governor's School West at Salem College in WinstonSalem and Governor's School East at Meredith College in Raleigh Funded annually by the General Assembly of North Carolina, the program is administered by the Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education, and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division A Board of Governors, appointed by the State Board of Education, acts as an advisory body *Character Education-Pamlico County High School The faculty of Pamlico County High School nominated students that best exemplify the Character Education word of the month-Honesty From this list of nominations, winners from each grade level were selected and were recognized at a celebration at the school 9th Grade, Jazmyn Smith Jazmyn is a hard working young lady who strives to her best everyday She is a respectful, conscientious, easy going, and of course an honest young lady Jazmyn is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Christopher Smith of Bayboro 10th Grade, Amber Pegram Amber is honest at all times and a wonderful person She is forthright about her life, her goals and who she is Amber is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jerry Pegram of Bayboro 11th Grade, Roman Ryes Roman is displays honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity in everything he does Despite adversity, Roman sticks to his positive attitude, moral beliefs and sense of responsibility Roman is the son of Ms Mary Branch of Bayboro 12th Grade, Eric Hardison Eric displays honesty and trustworthiness in all of his endeavors He is very involved in all aspects of school life Eric is the son of Mr and Mrs Thad Hardison of New Bern *Megan Cross, a graduate of PCHS made the Deans List for the Fall 2008 semester at East Carolina University Megan graduated after just three years at Pamlico County High School Congratulations to Megan on her accomplishments *The North Carolina Child and Family Leadership Council's January 2009 report on the School-based Child and Family Support Team Initiative to the Office of the Governor included a comment concerning Pamlico County High School The comment was made by Dr Wanda Dawson and the report credited, in part, the positive impact that the High School's Child and Family Support Team has had on improving the graduation rate for 2007-2008 *Pamlico County Schools would like to show appreciation to the Pamlico County Arts Council for bringing a wonderful program to our schools on Thursday, March 19th The Bright Star Theater Group from Asheville, North Carolina visited the students at PCPS to perform a play about discouraging bullying and they also visited PCMS to perform a play about Martin Luther King The Pamlico County Arts Council generally brings in at least three outside entertainment groups for the schools each year These groups are in the areas of music, dance, drama or visual art Their mission is to further the growth of the cultural arts in Pamlico County and to help preserve our cultural heritage Mrs Cynthia Delamar, co-president of the Pamlico County Arts Council, will be here to receive a certificate of recognition from the Board of Education ...*Character Education- Pamlico County High School The faculty of Pamlico County High School nominated students that best exemplify the Character Education word of the month-Honesty From this list of nominations,... heritage Mrs Cynthia Delamar, co-president of the Pamlico County Arts Council, will be here to receive a certificate of recognition from the Board of Education ... groups for the schools each year These groups are in the areas of music, dance, drama or visual art Their mission is to further the growth of the cultural arts in Pamlico County and to help preserve
