Counseling & Student Support Services (CS3) Savannah: P: (912) 525-6971 F: (912) 525-6974 counseling@scad.edu Atlanta: P: 404.253.3400 F: 404.253.2724 atlcounseling@scad.edu Hong Kong: P: (852) 2253-8000 counseling-hk@scad.edu disability-hk@scad.edu September 1, 2010 Dear Professors and Department Chairs; Counseling and Student Support Services invites all Professors to include in their syllabi an opportunity for SCAD students to participate in an Image/Media Competition(s), “The Art of Prevention” to educate and address mental health issues that can impact academic and personal functioning Based upon the National College Health Assessment data there are five main areas of concern for students at the Savannah College of Art and Design The image/media competition(s) should be focused on these five primary areas: • • • • • Stress Management Sleep problems Anxiety Depression Substance Abuse Prevention Works can be in any medium and should be an exploration of one of the areas We are asking you consider including this competition in your curriculum as a classroom or extra credit project We would like students to gain practical experience in their major while also gaining educational awareness regarding prevention on the five primary areas of concern We are offering these Image/Media Competition(s), fall quarter 2010, winter quarter 2011 and spring quarter 2011 There will be awards given per quarter and the winning students entries will be advertised on our website and facebook page All students will be asked to sign consent for permission to use their submission(s) for promotion and education Winners will be asked to fill out a W9 or W8 form for tax purposes This competition will be a juried exhibition of work A quarterly reception will be held to showcase the entries and announce winners We are asking for Professors to volunteer to jury the work and select the winning entries Please email counseling@scad.edu if you would like to volunteer AWARDS $ 200 award for the winning entry $ 100 award for second place $ 50 Ex Libris Certificate for third place Entry Deadline Submissions should be received by the sixth week of the quarter All majors are invited to participate Students may enter up to pieces of work • Open to all with original works in any medium that address the Professor’s chosen area: Stress Management, Sleep, Anxiety, Depression or Substance Abuse Prevention • The size of the artwork will be left up to the Professor If the artwork is an image, it should be submitted and a C.D of the image should accompany the artwork • Where ever applicable, the art should accompany a labeled C.D or D.V.D along with the entry Submit entries to Jamie Scholten or Shelley Nelson-Bridger at York Hall, room 124 Be sure all submissions are identified with the artist’s name and telephone number on back and where applicable also includes a labeled C.D of the artwork The completed “Art of Prevention” form must be included with each entry The Art of Prevention Image/Media Competition Form Sponsored by Counseling and Student Support Services -Submit with your work Name I.D # Phone SCAD email Class Professor Address City State Zip Brief Description of your work and how it relates to the subject: Consent for Release of Artwork to Counseling and Student Support Services If my work wins I hereby authorize Counseling and Student Support Services at the Savannah College of Art and Design to display my artwork as seen fit by the department to include Facebook and other department websites I understand that my work may be used to educate and address mental health issues that can impact the academic and personal functioning of students Counseling and Student Support Services has the right to reproduce winning works to their website and for any advertising or promotional purposes I have read the above and fully understand its content I have asked questions about anything that was not clear to me and I am satisfied with the answers I have received Counseling and Student Support Services is not responsible for loss or damage of work submitted Signature of Student: _ Date:
