I am looking forward to another great year with your students! Materials Pencil Paper Sheet Music/Handouts Instrument Essential Elements 2000 – Book A 1” Three Ring Binder, Any Color with a Clear View Cover Sheet Protectors Classroom Rules In addition to all school and district rules: Be prepared and on time Stay seated and attentive Talk or play instrument only when instructed Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself Be respectful of others and yourself No food, drink, or gum Consequences If a student fails to follow the rules, the following actions may be taken: Verbal warning Lunch detention Parent contact Parent/Teacher conference Level Offense (Note: An Accumulation of Four Level 1’s Results in a Level Offense) Grading Kershaw County School District has a uniform grading policy In every school in our district, there will be two categories for grades: major grades and minor grades Major grades = 50% Tests, projects, playing tests, rehearsal attendance, concert and performance attendance Minor grades = 50% Homework, daily participation/class work, quizzes Leaving Class Students should try to use the restroom before they enter my classroom Students that not plan accordingly will be allowed to go to the restroom in exchange for lunch detention (unless they have a special prior permission) Students must have their agenda with them every day in order to leave class for any reason Concerts All students will participate in at least two concerts (Winter and Spring) Concert dates will be announced in advance If for some reason you have an immediate conflict with the date when announced, please contact me as soon as possible Concert attendance is mandatory and is factored into the student’s grade Only under extreme circumstances, will a student be excused from the concert (i.e death in the family, emergency medical situation) All students are also required to stay in attendance for the duration of the entire concert Concerts last between 45 minutes and an hour and will be held in the Lugoff-Elgin High School auditorium Band attire will be announced prior to performances SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment All 7th and 8th graders will be required to perform at the South Carolina Band Director’s Association Concert Performance Assessment The will perform with their perspective grade levels Other SC Band Events These events are listed in the calendar The more in which a student participates, the more points a student receive for end of the year awards LEMS also receives points for a school award based off participation These events will require much individual practice They are not mandatory, but highly recommended I look forward to another awesome school year!
