Summaries of Invasive Plant Data Collection Forms CATEGORY: INVASIVE PLANT INVENTORY Invasive Species Inventory Form (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources) Detailed Purpose: To collect information on invasive species location, abundance, distribution and habitat types in Minnesota Data is primarily collected electronically using handheld PDA/GPS (pendragon software) or handheld computers (with ARCPad software), but can be collected manually on data sheets Data is stored in a MS Access Database and managed for use in Access and/or Arcview Intended Users: Agency staff (MNDNR, Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation, County Ag inspectors and other local officials Paper forms can be used by the general public to report new infestations Data Standard Followed: Selected/Modified NAWMA standard fields, and a few of our own Contact: Luke Skinner, luke.skinner@dnr.state.mn.us Weed Occurrence Form (The Nature Conservancy, Weed Information Management System) Detailed Purpose: To document the presence of a new population including species name, specific location, location description, vegetation, and disturbances This form is part of the Weed Management Information System Database (WIMS), a Microsoft Access-based relational database application that is designed to assist natural resource managers in managing their weed data WIMS keeps track of three types of data records: weed occurrences (GPS point locations), assessments (size and status of the weed infestation to facilitate monitoring over time), and management treatments applied to those weed infestations (http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/wims.html) Intended Users: TNC staff, ecologists, land managers Data Standard Followed: NAWMA Contact: Mandy Tu, imtu@tnc.org Weed Assessment Form (The Nature Conservancy, Weed Information Management System) Detailed Purpose: To assess changes in previously known invasive plant population size, plant phenology, gps location, control efforts, and volunteer/staff work hours This form is part of the Weed Management Information System Database (WIMS), a Microsoft Access-based relational database application that is designed to assist natural resource managers in managing their weed data WIMS keeps track of three types of data records: weed occurrences (GPS point locations), assessments (size and status of the weed infestation to facilitate monitoring over time), and management treatments applied to those weed infestations (http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/wims.html) Intended Users: TNC staff, ecologists, land managers Data Standard Followed: NAWMA Contact: Mandy Tu, imtu@tnc.org Invasive Plant Record Sheet (Lake County Forest Preserves, IL) Detailed Purpose: A simple data form for staff and volunteers to report presence of invasive species in county forest preserves Minimum data required is in red font Each population is given a unique ID to enable tracking overtime Data is stored in an Access database, spatial data is also stored in ArcView Intended Users: Forest Preserve staff, contractors, volunteers Data Standard Followed: Selected NAWMA required field Contact: Debbie Maurer, dmaurer@co.lake.il.us Weed Survey Field Form (US Forest Service, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest) Detailed Purpose: Intended Users: US Forest Service Staff, Data Standard Followed: NAWMA required fields Contact: lrparker@fs.fed.us Invasive Plant Reporting Form (Invasive Plant Association of Wisconsin) Detailed Purpose: Intended Users: Agency staff, volunteers, general public Data Standard Followed: NAWMA Contact: Kelly Kearns, kelly.kearns@dnr.state.wi.us CATEGORY: EARLY DETECTION AND RAPID RESPONSE New Invaders Watch Program Data Collection Form (IL) Detailed Purpose: To record the location, qualitative abundance, and land ownership of new potentially invasive species in the Chicago region The majority of users will enter the data into an online access database via the internet (http://ctap.inhs.uiuc.edu/newinvaders/become_volunteer.aspx) The form allows for people to document how they vouchered the species Reports and vouchers will be verified by herbarium staff and experience field staff Every public property site name is linked to a rapid responder, i.e a primary contact for the agency or landowner, who will disseminate the alert to appropriate staff or volunteers for implementation of control efforts Intended Users: Trained volunteers, natural area managers, contractors Data Standard Followed: Selected NAWMA required fields (e.g., does not require following fields: infested area, percent cover, hydrologic unit code field, ownership codes) Contact: Debbie Maurer, dmaurer@co.lake.il.us Invasive Plants of the Future, Invasive Plant Report Form (WI) Detailed Purpose: To record collector information, species location and characteristics, habitat characteristics and landmarks for easy relocation of 15 target plant species Target species have been selected because of their potential for invasiveness in Wisconsin These plants are either: Already in Wisconsin but in localized populations, or Not known to be here yet but are likely to thrive in part or all of the state Plant vouchers (or photographs) and the data form are mailed to the project coordinator and are reviewed by staff at the Wisconsin State Herbarium Staff will confirm, with each collector, the correct identification of his or her report and guidelines for control will be provided Intended Users: Agency staff, land managers, general public Data Standard Followed: Selected NAWMA required fields Contact: David Eagan, InvasivePlants@mailplus.wisc.edu CATEGORY: INVASIVE PLANT MONITORING AND CONTROL Monitoring Form (National Park Service, Exotic Plant Management Team) Detailed Purpose: Paper version of hand held data dictionary used on Trimble GPS receivers Records detailed information of species, infestation area (gross infested, infested), cover class and treatment type Electronic collection links to geospatially referenced points and polygons Data is ultimately stored in the national NPS Alien Plant Control and Monitoring database Intended Users: Data Forms: agency staff and contractors Database- agency only Data Standard Followed: NAWMA Contact: Carmen Chapin, Carmen_Chapin@nps.gov Herbicide Application Record (Lake County Forest Preserve, IL) Detailed Purpose: One-page form records detailed information of herbicide application events, including location, chemical mix, weather conditions, growth stage of target species, recent management efforts Intended Users: Agency staff, volunteers, contractors Data Standard Followed: None Contact: Debbie Maurer, dmaurer@co.lake.il.us Invasive Plant Reporting Form (Invasive Plant Association of
