Summaries of Invasive Plant Data Collection Forms CATEGORY: INVASIVE PLANT INVENTORY Invasive Species Inventory Form (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources) Detailed Purpose: To collect information on invasive species location, abundance, distribution and habitat types in Minnesota Data is primarily collected electronically using handheld PDA/GPS (pendragon software) or handheld computers (with ARCPad software), but can be collected manually on data sheets Data is stored in a MS Access Database and managed for use in Access and/or Arcview Intended Users: Agency staff (MNDNR, Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation, County Ag inspectors and other local officials Paper forms can be used by the general public to report new infestations Data Standard Followed: Detailed Purpose: To document the presence of a new population including species name, specific location, location description, vegetation, and disturbances This form is part of the Weed Management Information System Database (WIMS), a Microsoft Access-based relational database application that is designed to assist natural resource managers in managing their weed data WIMS keeps track of three types of data records: weed occurrences (GPS point locations), assessments (size and status of the weed infestation to facilitate monitoring over time), and management treatments applied to those weed kelly.kearns@dnr.state.wi.us CATEGORY: EARLY DETECTION AND RAPID RESPONSE New Invaders Watch Program Data Collection Form (IL) Detailed Purpose: To record the location, qualitative abundance, and land ownership of new potentially invasive species in the Chicago region The majority of users will enter the data into an online access database via the internet (http://ctap.inhs.uiuc.edu/newinvaders/become_volunteer.aspx) The form allows for people to document how they vouchered the species Reports and vouchers will be verified by herbarium staff and experience field staff Every public property site name is linked to a rapid responder, i.e a primary contact for the agency or landowner, who will disseminate the alert to appropriate staff or volunteers for implementation of control efforts Intended Users: Trained volunteers, natural area managers, contractors Data Standard Followed: Selected NAWMA required fields (e.g., does not require (WI) Detailed Purpose: To record collector information, species location and characteristics, habitat characteristics and landmarks for easy relocation of 15 target plant species Target species have been selected because of their potential for invasiveness in Wisconsin These plants are either: Already in Wisconsin but in localized populations, or Not known to be here yet but are likely to thrive in part or all of the state Plant vouchers (or photographs) and the data form are mailed to the project coordinator and are reviewed by staff at the Wisconsin State Herbarium Staff will confirm, with
