strong force of youthful, highly skilled and talented intellectuals during this age of integration and advancement of the knowledge economy As a result, education is the fundamental remedy for the country's development and bringing it up to par with the powers of the five continents The youth force, particularly the student force, plays a critical role in nation growth and development To accomplish so, students must be engaged in learning and expanding knowledge from the time they are in school and must have the suitable option in the subject of study to make a career selection beneficial for themselves after graduation However, despite working hard and attempting to study, many students nowadays not achieve the desired results It might be because the study method is incorrect They must work part-time, which allows insufficient time for studies However, it indicates that students' learning outcomes are not as predicted since they choose the wrong major in the initial time They are quickly discouraged throughout the learning process and have little enthusiasm in learning and enhancing their knowledge In other words, finding a major that matches your potential and honing your skills before entering society is one of the objectives of attending college When external factors predominate in major selection and decision-making, a person may not be content with college life, may have trouble getting ready for a job, and may confront uncertain career possibilities When picking a major, internal conflicts seem to be prevalent if societal necessities, such as finding employment after graduation, are the sole considerations Additionally, the rate of career changes or dropouts is higher than it would be if the major were chosen based on aptitude if the university's or department's reputation or departmental recognition were taken into account Therefore, it was discovered that students who chose their majors for external reasons either desired to change their professional path or dropped out as a result of numerous challenges including the wrong major for them Contrarily, if students select a major for internal reasons, students are motivated by the major because it matches your aptitude, passion, and talent, which promotes greater absorption in and comprehension of the major Consequently, the level of pleasure with the major rises Facing this reality, our group selected the topic: “The influence of choosing the wrong major on Foreign Trade Students' academic results" 1.2 Research objective In order to develop and release abilities that are more appropriate for the era of knowledge and information, education in culinary studies is more crucial than ever As a result, it has been suggested that the reason for choosing a major affects academic success, adjustment to university life and major satisfaction The impact's outcomes, meanwhile, are somewhat contradictory As a result, this study aims to suggest interdisciplinary and industrial implications by understanding the influence of major selection motivation on major satisfaction, academic achievement, and dropout In this topic, our research team will investigate how choosing the incorrect major impacts the academic performance of Foreign Trade students More precisely, we will measure the status and learning results of Foreign Trade students while also investigating the reasons and analyzing the consequences of selecting the incorrect major on learning outcomes As a result, methods to increase the efficiency and quality of student instruction are proposed LITERATURE REVIEW & THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK 2.1 Literature review 2.1.1 Research works in the world  Evans (1999), “School-leaver, Transition to Territorial Study: A Literature Review” The author has divided the factors affecting students' learning outcomes into groups of elements including:  Group 1: Demographic characteristics (age, gender, language, cultural background, educational status, social status, place of residence, etc.)  Group 2: Psychological characteristics (preparedness for learning, strategies for learning, commitment to goals, etc.)  Group 3: Previous study results  Group 4: Social factors  Group 5: Organizational factors  Stinbrickner, TR, Stinebricer, R (2001), “The relationship between Family income and schooling attainment: Evidence from a liberal arts college with a full tuition subsidy program”, Berea College The study examined the relationship between family input and academic achievement at school and came to the following conclusions: female gender, ACT scores, family income, and roommate family income and male ACT test scores have a positive effect on academic GPA, while black males have a negative impact on academic performance  Antonio Lozano Diaz (2003), “Personal, family and academic factors affecting low achievement in secondary school”, Spain With the variables such as parent's education level, gender, learning motivation, and relationships between students and with others, by regression analysis and ANOVA test, the study concludes: environment School and learning motivation influence academic performance, but the mother's level does not  Darling – Hammond (2000), “Teacher quality and student achievement” This study investigated the relationships between instructors and faculty and student academic achievement throughout the states using data from a 50-state survey of policy studies examining schools, staffing surveys, and national assessments of educational programs The author concluded that investment and teacher quality are associated with raising student accomplishment through qualitative and quantitative analyses The qualifications and competencies that teachers bring to their jobs can also be significantly impacted by national policies on teacher licensure, recruiting, and training In conclusion, the research mentioned above clearly demonstrates the relationship and degree of influence that many elements having to with social, economic, and demographic aspects have on student learning results Acquiring knowledge from previous studies and wanting to learn in other aspects to better understand Therefore, the group approached and focused on studying the factors related to the division of time and the group of mental factors, namely the number of hours of self-study at home, the number of absences from school, and the frequency of participating in extracurricular activities lock, internet time, overtime, library time and love 2.2.2 Research projects in Vietnam There have been much prominent research works such as that of author Huynh Quang Minh (2010) with the topic: "Factors affecting the sexual performance of full-time students at the University of Agriculture and Forestry in Ho Chi Minh City", Research 21 by Nguyen Thi Mai Trang, Nguyen Dinh Tho, Mai Le Thuy Van (2008) on “the main factors affecting the knowledge acquired by students of economics major”, Vo Thi Tam's master thesis (2010) factors affecting the learning outcomes of regular students at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City", master's thesis of Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang (2010) "Surveying the relationship between study habits and concept of study with the academic results of university students of Natural Sciences, National University Nguyen Cong Khanh (2009) with "Study on learning styles of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences" 10 the curriculum and as fundamental information about whether a student may go to the next course Individual characteristics (intelligence, personality, etc.) of learners and contextual factors impact academic achievement to a significant extent (school environment, home environment, class environment, etc.) Moreover, a learner′s academic achievement is decided by the settings, conditions, and techniques of learning activities rather than by his or her own abilities If the student′s talents, attitudes, and motives are learner variables, then specific states, situations, procedures, and so on are educator variables As a result, this variable is reflected and assessed in order to clarify the effect and difference of achievement based on the learner′s major selection motivation and major satisfaction 2.2.4 Importance of learning Regardless of class, gender, or social status, learning is a very important activity for everyone Learning is receiving more and more attention today because society's advancement demands that everyone have a vast amount of knowledge in order to advance Learning encompasses many different areas, including morality, emotion, lifestyle, and many different realms of scientific knowledge First and foremost, learning teaches people how to love one another and how to think more clearly so they may take in more of the world around them through their senses 15 Second, the benefit to people: Learning to comprehend, to be human, to have a career, and to live a secure life  Family values: Acquire information to manage family affairs, rear children, and create families  Society values: Learning to contribute to poverty alleviation, support sustainable economic development, build a healthy social culture, to reduce social evils 2.2.5 Major satisfaction level Major satisfaction was determined by dividing the major satisfaction into class satisfaction, subject satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and cognitive fulfillment Analysing the elements that influence department satisfaction, social perception while choosing a major, and contentment with the major The evaluation of major satisfaction was discovered to be an essential component in raising major satisfaction As a result of environmental elements influencing each other, major satisfaction refers to a subjective experience of experiencing and thinking about a major as a complex of emotion and cognition This implies that the interplay between the environment around the major and the individual characteristics shapes each person′s conduct inside the department of the major An individual's major is the study of a number of fields, from theory to demonstration In an administrative sense, it is described as a fundamental unit in which professors and students collaborate and a site for college life Furthermore, university majors work through the interaction of internal 16 elements such as teachers and students and extrinsic factors such as the external environment Satisfaction with a major is associated to the motivation for selecting a major, which has a significant impact on college academic achievement and college life adjustment The degree to which personal traits (interest, ability) align with the major, in particular, influences the amount of pleasure in a major There are additional research findings indicating that when the major and personal qualities fit, the degree of satisfaction with the major is high HYPOTHESIS This research posed the question: "How does choosing the wrong major effect FTU students' academic results?" Research group will find the answer for this question based on the collected data According to the first conjecture and information that is collected from the literature review, the assumption is that Foreign Trade University students have academic performance ranging from the lowest to the highest and that picking the wrong major would have a negative impact on student learning outcomes RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY 4.1 Research design and Method This study is conducted through quantitative methods, which gathers data and statistics through surveys, polls, and other forms of data collection to explain a specific phenomenon- (Organizing Your Social Sciences Research Paper: Quantitative Methods, n.d.) 17 The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of choosing the incorrect major on FTU students' academic performance, hence the conclusions should be based on the data gathered The statistics will determine whether they choose the wrong major effect study results Consequently, the quantitative technique is the best complement for the study 4.2 Instruments of data collection Data will be collected through a survey via the internet among students in Foreign Trade University Google Form, which is familiar and simple to use for students, will be utilized 4.3 Sample and Data To understand more precisely about the impact of choosing the wrong major on the academic performance of Foreign Trade students, our team conducted a survey of 120 students from various faculties in the university, resulting in: No Content Your study results last semester: Satisfaction level with your study results last semester: Study time Answer Quantity (people) Percentage (%) Excellent (8.5 - 10) 19 15,8% Good (7.0 - 8.4) 45 37.5% Average (5.5 - 6.9) 48 40% Below average (4.0 - 5.4) 6,7% Very satisfied 22 18% Satisfied 74 62% Dissatisfied 24 20% All day 2.5% Only evening 30 25% Free time 87 72.5% 18 According to the statistics in the table above, the majority of Foreign Trade students have average academic achievements, accounting for 40%, and good academic results account for nearly 38% of the average results Based on random survey data, 62% of the students are satisfied with their academic results, whereas 20% are dissatisfied, a quite large proportion Students study mostly in their free time; nevertheless, they must both study and work part-time during the evenings to cover tuition expenses To clarify the reasons for the aforementioned learning results of students at the school, our team additionally asked 120 students about the factors influencing their academic achievement and the reason might lead them to choosing wrong major, with the following results: No Content Which of the following factors you believe is having an impact on your academic result? If yes, what made you choose the wrong major? Quantity (people) Percentage (%) 36 30% 43 35.8% Participate in too many clubs 24 20% Missing lots of classes 17 14.2% 24 20% 19 15.8% 38 31.7% 41.2% Answer Having part-time job Choosing the wrong major Choose major according to the trend Choose by friends or lovers Choose according to the parents’ desires Choose a random major 19 just to get a college degree Being confused, subjective, choose indiscriminately 34 28.3% Following the survey results, the primary reason of dissatisfaction, poor academic performance of students, is due to the effect of the wrong major choice Choosing the wrong major for students mainly comes from the following 05 reasons  Choose major following the trend: This is an extremely common cause Because students are often caught up in hot majors in the market without finding out the details of the profession, such as the training credit system of that major 20  Choose by friends or lover Young people will often follow the joy before them, which is to have fun with friends and lovers But not care too much about the major or faculty that you will choose  Choose based on parents’ preferences Although parents' advice to their children about their future major is a necessity, many parents are overusing this role, to impose on their children professions that they not love  Choose major just to get a college degree Young people often only put their passion first and not pay too much attention to other issues This not only interrupts the study work but also leaves a lot of consequences later  Mental confusion, choose randomly This situation, which usually occurs with two subjects of students, is the group that thinks too carefully and the subjective group that does not care What both groups have in common is that they wait close to the day before choosing Therefore, under time pressure, it is very easy to choose a major indiscriminately THE INFLUENCE OF CHOOSING THE WRONG MAJOR ON THE CURRENT FTU STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC RESULTS Choosing the wrong major has a detrimental impact on students' academic performance as well as their future work, specifically:  Choosing the incorrect major is not suitable for the student's abilities, making the learning process monotonous, students are not motivated and focused on studying or not concentrate, resulting in unexpected outcomes or bad results affecting graduation ranks  Resulting in a loss of time, effort, and money: Going to university is a waste of not just time and effort, but also of money When students become disoriented and pick the wrong field of study for the first time, it will take them approximately 3.5 to years to finish a bachelor's degree program, in addition to the tuition charge of Foreign Trade University Foreign Trade University is one of the top universities in Vietnam, with high average tuition fees Students must spend a few hundred million to study a subject that is not suitable for their ability After finishing their studies, many students even work in the opposite direction or learn from the beginning of another major Furthermore, having the incorrect major wastes the time of many people involved For example, the teachers at the training school spent time and effort teaching and imparting knowledge, but for those who are not interested, they are not in the right direction  Wasting of brain drain: The primary decision wastes the students' gray matter and wastes their creativity in studying subjects that are not fit for themselves or suitable for future orientation Teachers must also communicate knowledge to students who not intend to pursue this subject of study in the future  Choosing the wrong major might lead to students working in the wrong industry and being unemployed The consequences of picking the wrong major are highly serious; students are not interested in the major, are bored, want to find jobs to fulfill their boredom, frustration, and are seeking for a new direction afterwards As a result of students dropping out to work in the incorrect industry, the unemployment rate also increased accordingly  You will experience psychological depression if you study and handle an unsuitable job as a result of your incorrect career orientation Above all, if you are not interested in, passionate about, or enjoy your profession, you will not have the energy or motivation to work Additionally, choosing the incorrect major causes you to not appreciate the excellent values of work in the industry, creating a feeling of depression and wanting to quit It can be seen that the wrong major choice of Foreign Trade University students, and other students in general, is quite significant, with the main implications being the direct influence on the outcomes of their learning first Because of the lack of understanding and immaturity in experience, listening to other people's ideas, and picking randomly, they didn't have the correct attitude and viewpoint while choosing a major before future turning point, which caused them to choose a major without thorough consideration and investigation Many students lack their own perspectives and register based on their parents' desires, the recommendations of friends and instructors, forgetting their own interests and talents All of them are attracted by the glamor of the job market, the immaturity of experience, and the fact that the major is "hot," but not consider long-term and sustainable growth Some of the students attend school "simply to acquire a degree," therefore they are unconcerned with learning outcomes and hence not achieve the best results PROPOSED SOLUTIONS Indeed, choosing the wrong major has a significant influence on learning results as well as the students' future So, even if all classes are "missed," they must continue to progress and complete their course to graduate Some of them, however, decide to "reserve" or leave it incomplete in order to follow your aspirations and strengths No matter which option you take, you must thoroughly evaluate it so that you not regret it the following time Here are some suggestions proposed by our group: 6.1 Identify your own desires and orient the right way for your career Even though you select the wrong major, you must evaluate what you are excellent at, what your weaknesses are, what your interests are, and what your future wishes are to be able to define the future direction more accurately, so that the path forward is in line with your desires Once you've decided the above, you may decide whether to continue studying to finish or to give up and pursue your ambitions It is more suitable since the option is up to each person, and you are responsible for your own decisions 6.2 Strive to improve your own learning results: If you choose to continue studying, even if you are not suited or if you not enjoy that field, you must also strive harder, improve grades and abilities in school, and recognize that this is sometimes an opportunity for you to understand your own boundaries and personality Improving your scores will help you get better outcomes, graduate faster, and apply for jobs more easily The university environment is distinct from that of high school Most children attend school away from home and are not instructed by their parents Society still has many temptations, such as too many pupils in classrooms, a large amount of labor that must be managed, and many other limitations Despite what has been stated, the most crucial aspect of successful learning outcomes is that students be self-sufficient Your learning objectives must be clearly defined Beginning by increasing study time at home, putting more effort into studying, and focusing on attending class rather than absences Students can alter their learning strategies to get better results The learning approach is also highly essential since it has a considerable impact on the learning process and student learning results Students score higher and are more engaged in studying when they use the effective learning strategy 6.3 Should learn about trending jobs, modern social trends: Aside from passion, students should analyze current societal trends, such as which careers are "hot" and sought after by many people, which careers are available, and the most promising employment However, this does not obligate you to follow the majority Students should consider choosing a career that is in keeping with their present desires and talents, but it is still possible to stay up with the societal growth trend 6.4 Should be independent in choosing a job: Many jobs and fields of study not coincide, so even if you work in the industry, you must think carefully, never listen and rely all on the instructions of others, you must listen and feel yourself CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 7.1 Conclusion In summary, the research analyzed the effects of choosing the incorrect major on the learning outcomes of Foreign Trade University students by conducting a school-wide survey, evaluating, and drawing conclusions The issue of students picking a major that is not a good fit for them has a negative influence on their learning performance, causing inhibitions and sadness The desire to give up students not just at Foreign Trade University, but also at many other universities around the country Choosing the incorrect subject of study has a significant impact on learning results as well as students' future careers That is why, even if you chose the wrong major, you must continue and complete your course; some of you opt to "reserve" or stop midway to follow your goal and your interest, while others continue Whatever you do, in my view, you should think about it thoroughly so that you don't regret it the following time 7.2 Recommendations Each student is entirely responsible for his or her own decisions and learning outcomes, and each strives to better their own performance The learning approach is also highly essential since it has a large impact on learning and the outcomes of student learning Students will perform better and be more engaged in studying if an effective learning strategy is used Additionally, the university should increase training quality and provide facilities for students to study and research Teachers should try to make their lectures not too dry, ponderous, or theoretical, since this might make pupils unwilling to learn 7.3 Limitations and Future Implications As with the majority of studies, the design of the current study is subject to limitations  Time constraint: We had 10 days to this research proposal Also in that time, we did not fully focus on this research due to the final exam of other subjects  Limited statistical sample size or statistical mesurements: This research only conducts in sample size with 50 students in Foreign Trade University Therefore, it could lead to the wrong result The larger sample size is, the more precise result we get  Limited access to data: when we survey certain students in Foreign Trade University, several students not respond us or they respond incorrectly Therefore, we might need to redesign or restructure our research in different way In this study, the suggestions for this limitation are as follow First, in the follow-up study, we should arrange our time more effectively and logically to avoid insufficient time Second, due to the smaller sample size which leads to the variable result and careless, in the next study, our team should expand the sample size in all sophomore students in Foreign Trade University RESEARCH TIMLINE *Note: Rows: Activitties; Columns: Time Sep 2022 Define topic Literature Oct 2022 Nov 2022 Dec 2022 Jan 2023 Feb 2023 March 2023 review Design questionnair e Finalize
