Macintosh Information For Students June, 17 2013 Version 1.5 Customer Relations and Learning Technologies Clemson Computing and Information Technology INTRODUCTION This document provides helpful information for students that are using the Mac OS X platform If you need any assistance, please contact 656-3494, email ithelp@clemson.edu or come to CCIT Computer Support NETWORK REGISTRATION Before you can connect to Clemson University’s network, you must register your computer on the network Be sure to connect an Ethernet cable to your computer and open either Safari or Firefox (located on the dock at the bottom of the screen) to register the wired connection After you have completed the network registration, disconnect your Ethernet cable and again open either Safari or Firefox to register the wireless connection You can update or modify your network registrations by navigating to http://netreg.clemson.edu in any web browser CONNECT TO THE CAMPUS WIRELESS NETWORK (EDUROAM) Clemson University has several wireless networks on-campus The official wireless network for all students and employees is called ‘eduroam To connect to this network, you should use the wireless installer appropriate for your computer operating system These installers can usually be located at http://wireless.clemson.edu PRINTING ON CAMPUS To print to authorized printers on campus, navigate to http://www.clemson.edu/ccit/help_support/printing_plotting/ and select the Mac version of the PawPrints installer located on that page After running the installer, you will have several new printer queues available on your Mac (located in the System Preferences Printer & Fax pane) More information about the PawPrints system can also be found on the same website DUAL-BOOTING (HOW TO BOOT INTO WINDOWS) Hold the ‘option’ button (located between the ctrl and command buttons at the bottom of the keyboard) as soon as the computer starts This will give you the option of booting into Windows if it has been installed on your computer To install Windows as a dual-boot on your computer, go to http://ccit.clemson.edu/mac_software and run the appropriate installer RIGHT-CLICKING (SECONDARY CLICK) To right-click or ctrl-click on the Macintosh, put two fingers on the touchpad while clicking the button This will act as a right-click in both the Mac OS and within Windows This option is not necessarily on by default Go to System Preferences/Trackpad to enable this setting Customer Relations and Learning Technologies Clemson Computing and Information Technology BURN CD/DVD To burn data file to a CD or DVD, just insert the blank disc into the computer Then copy (drag) any files that you want onto the disk Then drag the disc to the lower right side of the dock to the Burn icon After the disc is finished burning, press the eject button located at the top right of the keyboard (above the delete key) SEARCHING FOR FILES To search for files, documents or emails, click the blue magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen This will open Spotlight, which will not only search by file name, but also searches the contents of the files or emails CONNECT TO PROJECTOR To connect your computer to a projector in a classroom, attach the video adaptor to the VGA cable of the Projector and press the F7 button at the top center of the keyboard to change video modes If this does not work, you may need to open the Display Preferences Go to the Apple at the top left of the screen and select System Preferences Then Select Displays/Arrangement and select Mirror Displays HOW TO USE FUNCTION BUTTONS While using the MacOS, pressing the buttons above the keyboard will perform the action of the button (volume, brightness, video change, keyboard brightness, etc.) To access the function keys, you must press the ‘fn’ button located at the bottom left of the keyboard while pressing the necessary function key at the top of the keyboard While using Windows, the function keys perform in the opposite manner You not need to press the ‘fn’ key to access them Customer Relations and Learning Technologies Clemson Computing and Information Technology ...INTRODUCTION This document provides helpful information for students that are using the Mac OS X platform If you need any assistance, please contact 656-3494, email ithelp@clemson.edu... on-campus The official wireless network for all students and employees is called ‘eduroam To connect to this network, you should use the wireless installer appropriate for your computer operating system...
