ENVIRONMENT ANALYSI OF SAIGON- DONGXUAN BEER, ALCOHOL JSC CHAPTER 3: STRATEGY SELECTION AND SOLUTION FOR IMPLEMENTATION 88 Group 8- Class GaMBA01.M0809 Capstone Project report on Business Administration CHAPTER I ARGUMENT BASE OF BUSINESS STRATEGY 1.1 Concept of strategy and role of business strategy 1.1.1 Concept of strategy “Strategy” term is originated from the word “strategos” in the ancient Greek, with a basic theoritical point that one party can crush opponent, even if the opponent is superior in number, stronger, if they can lead the status and trick the opponent into the battlefield favourable for implementing its capacity (advantage) In the competitive business world nowadays, the concept of strategy is studied and developed more, mainly concentrated in major categorys: plan, model, position, and vision According to these viewpoints, the strategy means:: “A united, comprehensive and cooperative plan, is designed to ensure the basic target of a company is carried out successfully” (Lawrence R Jauch & William F Gluek (1989) Business Policy and Strategic Management) “A model or plan of an organization for cooperating decisive targets, policies and orders of action in a united block” (Quinn, J., B (1980) Strategy for change: Logical Inscrementalism Homewood, Illois, Irwin.) “Research for a suitable competitive position in an industry, a major operation scope occuring competitive activitities” (Porter, M.E (1981) The contribution of Industrial Organization to Strategic Management New York) “Define long term basic target of a company, action program with the distribution of necessary resources to carry out (http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2007/05.17/27-chandler.html those January targets 10th, 2010) 99 Group 8- Class GaMBA01.M0809 Capstone Project report on Business Administration In general, setting up a strategy must meet concurrently the following factors: Be map out in a long time and define clearly basic targets and business orientation of a company Create the growth for the organization, ensure the continuous and sustainable development of a company in a competitive business environment Use all resources of an organization in the most effective way; Create the best competitive position for the organization in the future So, it can say that, strategy “are series of long term activities built up to bring an organization from the current position to a desired position in the future via establishing the competitiveness in comparison with advantages of other organizations on the market.” (Michael E Porter (1996) What is strategy?, Harvard Business Review) The operation of an organization in long term is to achieve the business advantage in defining the available resources to use in a defined business environment, in order to satisfy the market demand and ensure benefits for all relating agents (stakeholder) In almost business environment, the “strategy” term is derived as per level and there are three ordinary ways for using it: Corporate strategy, Business unit strategy (business strategy) and Function strategy.1.1.2 The basic of strategy Corporate strategy represents the correlative relationship between general target and corporate scope to meet expectations of the capital contributors It is affected much by the investors in the company and it plays the role of instructing the process of making decision on a strategy in the whole company Corporate strategy is often presented clearly in “Mission Declaration” Business strategy shows how a company can compete successfully in a specific market It relates to strategy decisions in choosing products, meeting customer demands, gaining the competitive advantage over opponents, exploiting and creating new opportunities, etc 10 Group 8- Class GaMBA01.M0809 Capstone Project report on Business Administration 3.1 Strategy Selection Using the matrix EFE and IFE to evaluate, the potential of company is determined in the yellow group Therefore, we choose the strategy WO (take advantage of opportunity, overcome weakness) in the above SOWT analysis This strategy is devided into fields of management to favour the control and surpervise Group 1: Improve quantity and quality of products to meet market demand, safe product identification system Group : Set up appropriate marketing strategies in response to the requirement of customers Group : Build up and manage the human resources, maintain and improve the current human resources Group : Maintain supplier system and financial resource to deal with fluctuation of price Take use of some method of giving mark with mark scale 10 to valuate the selected strategic plans through items affected the enterprise potentiality (capacity of profits, expenses, investment, risk), in the direction that the more benefits for enterprise to receive, there higher mark for enterprise to receive Table 3.1 Selection of strategic plan Seq Comparative norm Profit ability Expense for implementation Investment effectiveness Risks Total mark: Groups of strategic plan Group Group Group Group 8 32 5 25 9 34 Remark 24 The plan of Group has the highest selection point due to the low cost but potential changes for the enterprise in all aspects of business operations from marketing management, production management and creating synergic strength of this 54 Group 8- Class GaMBA01.M0809 Capstone Project report on Business Administration enterprise The plan of group has highest selection point due to the limited capacity for profits, much dependent on external factors influenced level to the strength of the business is not urgent The plan of group has the second-rank selection point because this is the available strength of the enterprise, however, in order to carry out this strength, it should be dependent on high-level personnel and large amount of implementation The plan of group has the third-rank selection point because of the great expenses, great pressure from outside as well as much dependent on the group of highlevel officers of the enterprise However, this is the effective and important plan to help the enterprise improve the enterprise size and grow up in the current common background 3.2 Strategic implementing solutions The basis of essense capacity of the company is technical facilities for current production of the enterprise, we should be recommended some solutions for implementing the selected strategic plans as follow: 3.2.1 Solutions for finance and investment Maintain the available stable financial resources of the CONCLUSION Thanks for periods of study and research of subjects on Business Administration (in nearly years) and nearly month of data collection, research, analysis and generalization, our group bravely proposes business and production strategy of a certain enterprise typical in the North of Hanoi city that is Saigon – Dong Xuan Beer Alcohol Joint Stock Company (DOLICO), period of 2011-2015, including 04 groups of strategic plan options and 04 groups of solutions to execute the fields under the corporate management as stated above As a small and medium enterprise specialized on the traditional business areas, especially beverages, it owns some certain advantages but it has been still facing with many potential threats, unless otherwise it should promptly implement any reforms to achieve better business results The given comments made by the team are sometime, subjective theoretical due to limited time and insufficient data On the other hand, its specific business sector is more affected by the policy risks We hope that the useful reference document may help the Corporate management construct comprehensive sustainable development strategy to meet the requirements of the economy, and to the expectation of locality and investors 59 Group 8- Class GaMBA01.M0809 Capstone Project report on Business Administration REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Garry D Smith, Danny R Arnold, Boby R
