To design interesting kinds of activities for extra practice - To help students actively and eagerly participate in extra practice - To help students improve English skills effectively and skillfully so that they get the highest scores Methods of the study - Study some web tools - Read materials relating to the topic - Design suitable extra activities for students - Collect information from students and other teachers - Learn from experience based on achieved results Scope of the study The 11, 12 graders PART II: CONTENT Theoretical and practical background 1.1 Theoretical background 1.1.1 The importance of creating learning environment outside the classroom “Learning environment refers to the diversity of physical locations, contexts, and cultures in which students learn Since students may learn in a wide variety of settings, such as outside-of-school locations and outdoor environments, the term is often used as a more accurate or preferred alternative to classroom, which has more limited and traditional connotations - a room with rows of desks and a chalkboard, for example The term also encompasses the culture of a school or class, its presiding ethos and characteristics, including how individuals interact with and treat one another as well as the ways in which teachers may organize an educational setting to facilitate learning.” While children acquire a lot of knowledge in school, their learning process continues beyond the classroom In reality, one period in a high school always lasts 45 minutes In order to understand the knowledge that teacher has taught, a lot of extra activities are prepared to help students consolidate the knowledge or widen it for better understanding As the definition above, it is believed that learners can study in many different ways in diversified environments 1.1.2 The importance of interest in study Interest is an individual's special attitude towards an object, which is both meaningful to life and capable of bringing pleasure to the individual in the process of activity in life as well as in study (Nguyen Quang Uan) Interest plays an important role, having a great impact on the attitude, work and study results of each individual Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776-1841) German psychologist, who first developed the general theory of education that interest plays a central role in education He emphasized that interest is not only seen as a motivation in learning but also an important goal or outcome of education (according to Nguyen Duc Nhan) Being interested in learning helps students a lot When they are interested, they have a motivation to become active and maintain our attention for long periods of time Interest is the foundation for active memorization, attitudes, emotions in learning, the power for research, creativity, and maximization of one's potential The interest in learning stimulates the positivity of the intellectual ability, the effort to act in learning activities, create a motivation to stimulate learners in study, acquire knowledge and find new sources of learning content When they are interested in learning, they tend to assert themselves in that subject 1.1.3 The definition of extra practice The extra practice activities are designed so that teachers can assign different levels of activities in each unit to students based on their needs and abilities There are two types: Revision worksheets provide a review of the unit content based on more challenging activity types, to reinforce what has already been learnt Extension worksheets are more project - Integrate with learning management systems 1.2 Practical background 1.2.1 Brief introduction about Tan Ky High School Tan Ky high school is located in a mountainous area in the western part of Nghe An province If people have an opportunity to come here, they easily see the difficulties of people, the road, the shortage of facility Its students come from communes, 1/3 of whom are from ethenic minority Every day, if they not live in rented rooms, it takes many students 15 kms to ride their electric bikes or motorbikes to go to school This is a disadvantageous and dangerous distance due to a lot of dangers from streams and hills especially in rainy seasons 1.2.2 Actual situation of giving extra practice outside the classroom In the traditional ways, extra practice is given to students through exercises on text books, or copied papers At home, they will it and then hand in it to the teacher Although it can reassure the knowledge, it can lead to boredom and cause burden to teachers because the number of students in each class is big Moreover, as the author observed, the traditional ways of handing in the products and cheking them have triggered some problems The first problem is that teachers not apply various kinds of activities Sometimes, they give homework to students but not spend time checking it As the result, homework is not really effective The second problem is that students not feel excited to homework They reluctantly it, and sometimes try to copy it from friends and then feel fearful to be recognized At my school, although their living conditions are not high, parents try to buy for their children smart phones or computers They use these to contact with their friends, relax and study Recognizing that this is also advantageous, the authors believe that it is a good idea to make use of it to create a variety of extra practice for students to at home 1.2.3 The actual situation of modern education In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, the current information explosion, the form of online learning and testing is expanding globally School year 2020 -
