some features of special pgroups

Bài nghiên cứu này đề cập đến đặc điểm cú pháp và ngữ nghĩa của một số tính từ trong tiếng Anh chỉ kích thước và từ tương đương tiếng Việt của chúng. Nghiên cứu chỉ ra rằng cả tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt đều có những tính từ chỉ kích thước với số lượng ít, nhưng lại tiết lộ một số đặc điểm cú pháp khác nhau và nhiều đặc điểm ngữ nghĩa quan trọng về Không gian ngôn ngữ. Về mặt cú pháp, chúng có thể đóng vai trò là định ngữ và vị ngữ. Ở vị trí định ngữ, tính từ chỉ kích thước trong tiếng Anh được đặt trước hoặc sau danh từ trong khi từ tương đương tiếng Việt của chúng thường được đặt sau danh từ. Ở vị trí vị ngữ, tất cả các tính từ này đều theo sau một số động từ nối như be, get, grow hoặc become. Chỉ có tính từ tall được đặt sau động từ sit và stand. Ngoài ra, high, tall, deep và wide có thể được dùng như tân ngữ. Với chức năng này, chúng có thể đứng sau một đại từ hoặc cụm danh từ. Đáng chú ý, tất cả chúng đều đứng sau một cụm danh từ chỉ số lượng, theo cấu trúc: (danh từ chính) + cụm danh từ chỉ số lượng + tính từ chỉ kích thước. Cấu trúc này khác với tiếng Việt vì người Việt đặt tính từ chỉ kích thước trước cụm danh từ chỉ số lượng. Về mặt ngữ nghĩa, hầu hết tất cả các tính từ được chọn trong nghiên cứu này có thể được sử dụng để thể hiện nghĩa mở rộng và nghĩa chỉ vị trí của một thực thể trong không gian ngoại trừ tall, thick và broad chỉ đề cập đến nghĩa chỉ vị trí. Hơn nữa, cách chỉ kích thước phụ thuộc vào tính đa chiều, sự định hướng và một số yếu tố khác như tư thế của thực thể, tầm nhìn của người quan sát hoặc vị trí của người quan sát trong không gian.
