Trynowanotherprocess:Idealizethepaintingyousawintheartmuseum;
bringitvisually to your mind;re-see
itjustasyoudidbytheprocesspreviouslydescribed.Thenimage

doingthethingtheyarepicturedasdoing;feelthemovement;feelthe

heartbeatsofsoul;theydemandand

come to makeitselftrue. A desiregoes
outfromself;itdaringlyreachesout,demandingthethingdesired,and
divinelycreatesitinreality.
Putthefollowingtruthstogether:Desireistheheartof your ideal;in

somethingelsedropped-thecornersofhis
banker'smouth.Whatwasthetrouble?Faithfullyandconfidentlythe
owneraffirmedthetruth:“GodIsthe
SourceofAbundantSupply.”Whythenthefailure?BecauseGodisSpirit;
andconsequentlyaslongashe
continuedmerely to affirmGodasAbundantSupply,-thesupplycontinued
in a spiritualstate.Thisthebankers
refused to cash;theywantedcertifiedchecks.After a failureofmore
thantwoand a halfmonths,theownertried

islackofknowledgeofthetruenatureofmatterthatmakesusthinkof
itasdense,solid,motionlessandlifeless.
Ifinourgreaterknowledgeofmatterwefindthatitisonlyenergyin
reality,thatitisnotrestrictedenergybut
infiniteenergy,andthatitisofthesamesubstanceasspirit-thenour
conceptofmatterbecomessolikeour
conceptofthesubstanceofwhichidealsaremade,thatitispossible
forus to perceivesomedefiniteconnection
-a realrelation,perhaps a similarity,perhapseven a co-existence-of
thesubstanceofeveryidealandthe
substanceofeverymaterialreality.
Withsuchknowledge-foundinnextsucceedingchapters-ourfaiththat
idealscometrue,becausetheyareofthe
samesubstanceasmatter,canbeandisjustified.Suchfaithwillfire
anewouridealsanddesiresandimpelus to
ceasenoeffortuntiltheybecomerealities;andwithknowledgeofthe

experiencethatitisnotsodifficultasitonceseemed.Andyou,

themselvesgoingaboutthecityor to andfromwork on it.TheResultof
NotIdealizingtheProcess on thedayof
theopening,intelligentmenandwomencrowdedandjammedeachother,
wentwheretheydidnotwish to go,
evengotlost,thoughmanyofthemhadknownNewYorkalltheirlives.
Theconfusionandjammingofthemob
attwotransferstationsweresogreatthatscoresofwomenfainted,and
manywereseriouslyhurt.Morethan a
millionpeoplelosttheirheads-morethan a millionwereconfusedfor
weeks.Itwasnecessary to closethecrosstown
subwayfor a month to preventaccidents-actually to preventpeople
killingthemselvesandeachother,
becauseoftheirconfusedmobaction.Andallofthisconfusion,trouble,
injuryanddelaycouldhavebeen
preventedifeachofthesevenmillionpeoplewhousethesubwayshad
spentbutfiveminutesprevious to its

Millionsofothersthoughtofthenewroutes,butcertainlyveryfew
consciouslyidealizedthemselvestraveling
on them.YeteveryindividualinNewYorkcouldhavedoneitinfive
minutesiftheyhadonlybeeninthehabit
ofIdealizingtheProcessofDoingThings.Othershadideasofthenew
route,ofwheretheywanted to go,andof
how to get there.Iturnedmyideas into ideals.Idealizingtheprocess
ofdoingthething,includedmorethanthe
re-seeingofthementalpictureofthenewroute.Ididmorethan

Then,idealize your attitudetowardothers,"Thatwhichyeseekyeshall
find."Ifyouthinkthatallmenaretrying
to crushyou,youwillbecrushed;first,because your attitudecloses
your eyes to theopportunitiesofferedyou;
andsecond,becausesuchanattitudediscoversanddraws to youthosewho
donothelpyou.Ifyouidealize
othersaswilling to helpyou,youdraw to youmenandwomenwhowilldo
thesquarethingbyyouandhelpyou,
-inthemyouwillfindhelpand a justreward.Thisidealizedattitude
doesnotmakeyou a trustingsimpleton,for
theidealizedattitudealsoidealizeswisdominknowingothers.
Theidealizedattitudechangesalltheconditionsoflife.Inbusiness,
itleadsus to expectgoodresults,and,
expectinggoodresults,weplanbetter.Whenweplanbetter,-thatis,
in, a moreidealizedway-we get better
results.Idealizetheworldingeneral.Theuniversemustbegood.Ifit
werenotgooditwouldgo to piecesover
night,-forevildisruptsanddestroys.Goodattractsandunitesand
holdstogether.
Youcannotidealize your business, your professionand your workwithout
conductingthewholeaffairasan

YoumayidealizetheThingDesired,
down.Oneacrossthetable,onebesideme.LaterIlearnedthatonewas a
coaloperatorofIndiana,andtheother,
-well,therestofthestoryconcernstheotherman.
Onelookatthismantoldmehewasnot a so-called“manofideals,”-
thatis,notinaccordwiththeordinaryuse
oftheterm.Helookedveryprosperous;hewastalkative-menarealways
morecommunicativeafterdinner,
smoking a goodcigar, on a trainwithnothingelse to do.Thismanisthe
soap-dyekingoftheworld.Only a few
yearsagoheand a friend,hiswifeandhisfriend'swife,startedin
businessmakingsoap-dyes.Altogetherthey
had$800.Todayeachofthemismorethan a millionaire.Theirsoap-dyes
sellfortencents a package,yetthey
do a businessofmanyhundredthousanddollars a month.Theysecuredthe
originalpatentandconsequently,in
addition to theprofitstheymakefromtheirownconcern,theyarepaid
royaltiesbyallothersoap-dyecompanies.
How didhedoit?Ihavesaidthatheisnot a manofideals.That
statementisbothtrueandnottrue.Heisnot a
manofidealsofthePhariseekind,butheis a manwhoidealizesthe
thingwithwhichheworks. To himthe
soap-dyeisoneofthegreatinventionsoftheage.Hisfaceglowedashe
toldaboutit;hiseyesshone.
"Thinkwhatitmeans,"hesaid,"foreverywomanintheland-infact,
allovertheworld,fornowwe'reselling
soap-dyes to Europe,Australia,IndiaandJapan -to beableintwo
minutes to changethecolorofhershirtwaist,
of a pieceoflace,oranylighttrimmingmerelybydippingitinour
dye,withoutanyboiling,andwithout
stainingherhands."
Fromtheverybeginninghehadidealizedthethingheproduced.Hehad
idealizedthesoapinorder to selectthe
bestforthepurpose.Hehadidealizedthedyessoas to producethemost
usefuldye,themosteasilyandquickly

Asthelegfromknee to toeswasasstiffas a carvedpieceofwood,it
wasnecessary to use a caneor a crutchand
to hunchmywholebodyupwardinorder to swingtheotherlegforward.
Today,Icanmovetheleftfootupand

matterishardandsolid.Whenitis
smaller,wesaythematterisnothardandnotsosolid.Butitisnot
matteritselfthatissolidornotsolid.Intruth,
solidityisbutthespiritofmatter.Itisanothermanifestation-the

Inbusinessyoufailinsomethingsandsucceedinothers.Youareoften
failingandsucceedingatthesametime,
-failing to makeonepartof your businesssuccessfulandsucceedingin
makinganotherpartincreaseandpay.
Thefailuresaredue to theideasheld;thesuccesses, to theideals.If
youidealizetheentireprocessof your
businessyouwillnotonlyavoidfailuresandpartialfailures,butwill
thinkofpossibilitiesneverthoughtof
before,theveryonesthatwillleadyou to succeed. To illustrate,I
shalluse a simplecase,-oneofthesimplest
thatevercame to me,yetoneofthemostinteresting,andone,the
successofwhich,gavemeasmuchjoyasthe

inthecase,andit'sherstoryIshalltell.
TheWoman: A widowwithfourchildren;shethenlivedin a suburbof
Chicago;herhusbandhaddiedthree
monthsbefore;shewasleftasproprietorof a smallgroceryand
delicatessenstore.
TheConditions:Asthehusbandhadbeenillthreemonthsbeforehis
death,savingshadbeenusedindoctorbills,
hospitalbillsandfuneralexpenses.Thoughthestorewas a little
affair,ithadhad a goodbusinessinthissection
ofthewealthysuburbsolongasithadbeentheonlystorethere.But,
aboutthetimeofthehusband'sdeath,one
ofthoselargecompaniesthatestablishbranchstoresallover a great
citybuilt a white-tiled,plate-glass,two-
storybuilding on thecorneroppositeherlittleshop.Itcutdownthe
businessofthelittlestoresomuchthatthe
womanwasunableeven to make a livingforherselfandherchildren.
Itisnotenough to holdidealsoftheThingDesired,-thefirststep.It
isnotsufficientanditmaybedangerous to

Ifinourgreaterknowledgeofmatterwefindthatitisonlyenergyin
reality,thatitisnotrestrictedenergybut
infiniteenergy,andthatitisofthesamesubstanceasspirit-thenour
conceptofmatterbecomessolikeour
conceptofthesubstanceofwhichidealsaremade,thatitispossible
forus to perceivesomedefiniteconnection
-a realrelation,perhaps a similarity,perhapseven a co-existence-of
thesubstanceofeveryidealandthe
substanceofeverymaterialreality.
Withsuchknowledge-foundinnextsucceedingchapters-ourfaiththat
idealscometrue,becausetheyareofthe
samesubstanceasmatter,canbeandisjustified.Suchfaithwillfire
anewouridealsanddesiresandimpelus to
ceasenoeffortuntiltheybecomerealities;andwithknowledgeofthe
processofattainment,weshallknowby
experiencethatitisnotsodifficultasitonceseemed.Andyou,
yourself,canmake your idealsbecomerealities.

Your ideasarealwayschangingandyouareeverchanging your attitude

find."Ifyouthinkthatallmenaretrying
to crushyou,youwillbecrushed;first,because your attitudecloses
your eyes to theopportunitiesofferedyou;
andsecond,becausesuchanattitudediscoversanddraws to youthosewho
donothelpyou.Ifyouidealize
othersaswilling to helpyou,youdraw to youmenandwomenwhowilldo
thesquarethingbyyouandhelpyou,
-inthemyouwillfindhelpand a justreward.Thisidealizedattitude
doesnotmakeyou a trustingsimpleton,for
theidealizedattitudealsoidealizeswisdominknowingothers.
Theidealizedattitudechangesalltheconditionsoflife.Inbusiness,
itleadsus to expectgoodresults,and,
expectinggoodresults,weplanbetter.Whenweplanbetter,-thatis,
in, a moreidealizedway-we get better
results.Idealizetheworldingeneral.Theuniversemustbegood.Ifit

morecommunicativeafterdinner,
smoking a goodcigar, on a trainwithnothingelse to do.Thismanisthe
soap-dyekingoftheworld.Only a few
yearsagoheand a friend,hiswifeandhisfriend'swife,startedin
businessmakingsoap-dyes.Altogetherthey
had$800.Todayeachofthemismorethan a millionaire.Theirsoap-dyes
sellfortencents a package,yetthey
do a businessofmanyhundredthousanddollars a month.Theysecuredthe
originalpatentandconsequently,in
addition to theprofitstheymakefromtheirownconcern,theyarepaid
