Soneplex ® Features: • Remote connections over X.25 TCP/IP or RS-232 • Local bantam jack RS-232 access • Access supervision for intrusive testing • Drop and insert in both directions • Industry standard test signal generation • DS1 remote loopback control • Monitoring and measurement of signal • No provisioning or periodic maintenance required Remote Test Access Unit (RTAU) The Soneplex Remote Test Access Unit (RTAU) module provides a full complement of DS1 test capabilities to the Soneplex Broadband platform. Test capability can now be deployed directly in the loop electronics, at a cost well below methods typically deployed such as test heads or portable test equipment. The Soneplex RTAU allows operators to test from multiple points in the network, both remote and local, supporting intrusive testing, remote loopback control, test sig- nal generation and insertion, performance monitoring, measurement, jack access, and more. ADC’s Soneplex system is the lowest total cost solution to expand local loop business services. In addition to HDSL, HDSL2, traditional T1 repeater or optical DS2 technologies, Soneplex’s advanced diagnostic and management functions allow maximum control and visibility through- out local networks. Focused on flexible, end-to-end solutions, the Soneplex system approach provides robust, cost-efficient transmission and access over either fiber or copper, using a single platform. 2 www.adc.com • +1-952-938-8080 05/00 • 4082 Soneplex Remote Test Access Unit (RTAU) Applications Operators are faced with growing demand for improved DS1 HiCap service and performance while the types of managed customer premises equipment (CPE) has grown. Operators require a cost efficient method to determine whether or not a problem is in the network, while avoiding costly dispatches for problems that are at the CPE. The Soneplex Broadband system with the RTAU module consolidates test and equipment costs into one node that provides M13, office bay repeater and test head capability and the ability to test the full circuit remotely. Test Access Today’s methods of testing require expensive test heads, additional wiring, and the units monitored are passive. Testing of remote equipment requires T1 backhaul and test results are often non-standard. A remote central office will require additional test heads and test sets located in the central office. CLEC’s can bypass barriers to entry by remotely monitoring and testing their equipment at the central office. This includes identifying where the problem is: the CLEC equipment, the cus- tomer equipment or the RBOC equipment. Using remote dial-in the RTAU can be utilized for remote test access with or without expensive test software suites. Using TL1 commands, operations systems operators can remotely monitor and control an extensive array of high capacity digital services (HDCS) testing as defined by Bellcore for access supervision, in-service signal con- figuration, test signal generation, loopback control, and monitoring and measurement of the signal. Hekimian and ADC have worked together to also ensure that the Soneplex Broadband system can be tested using the Hekimian REACT 2001™ remote network test platform. Soneplex supports TL1 over both X.25 or TCP/IP. The RTAU is packaged as a single plug-in module. It replaces the TAU module in the TAU slot of the Soneplex Broadband chassis and requires the Main Processor Unit (MPU) software Version 5.3 or later or the Shelf Control Unit (SCU) 3.0 or later. Bantam jacks on the front panel of the RTAU provide local test access. ADC Telecommunications, Inc., P.O.
