(1)UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Part C: LISTENING Class 11B Date of teaching Absent students Note I OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to Ss can understand about the activities in the New year’s day in Japan and compare New year in Vietnam with New year in Japan II METHOD Integrated, mainly communicative, group work III PREPARATION Text book, lesson plan and CD player, Projector IV PROCEDURE Check attendances Check last lesson ( while teaching) Teach new lesson Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I WARM UP (3 minutes) Ask the question - Which country is it? Whole class - What you know about Tet in Japan? Look at the pictures on the screen and answer the T’s questions Helps students answer by showing some pictures -Lead in : today we are listening about how the New Year is celebrated in Japan It’s Japan May be Yes/ No Our lesson today helps us answer this question II.PRE-LISTENING( 10 minutes) - Aks Ss put the appropriate activities which people at New Year’s days in Vietnam or in Japan - Explain Newword Group work Listen to T and the task( discuss in group) In Viet Nam - Call on some Ss answer in front of class - going to the pagoda - Listen and check later - giving/receiving lucky money In Japan - exchanging gifts and cards - decorating the (2) - visiting friends house with pine tree - wearing kimonos or special dress * Pre- teach Vocabulary: - Show and provides the meaning and part of speech of vocabularies in listening script - Aks them to copy the vocabularies - Guide them how to read the new words Call on some Ss read the new words in front of the class Kimono (n)- Áo kimono ( trang phục truyền thống của người Nhật) Pine tree (n) – Cây thông Shrine (n) – Ngôi đền Similarities (n) – tương đồng - Copy meaning and part of speech of vocabularies -Read the new words in chorus -Read new words in front of the class - Listen to T’s explanation Represent (v) – Đại diện cho Longevity (n)- Sự trường thọ Whole class III.WHILE-LISTENING Task ( 12 minutes) - Explains the requirement of the task - Let Ss to comprehend and explain the sentences before you listen - Encourage them to guess their answers - Play CD and get them to listen attentively to catch the correct their answers - Calls on some Ss to give their answers - Plays the tape more than once if necessary Comprehend and explain the sentences before you listen - Try to to guess their answers - Listen to CD attentively to catch the correct their answers * Key: They put on special clothes   Everyone clean their house 3.Bells rings 108 times  4.Housewives prepare special foods  - Calls on some Ss to explain their answers in 5.They decorate house with their houses with kumquat trees front of the class - Feedback and give correct answers 6.They go to a shrine  They give each other “ Lucky money” They drink rice wine 9.They play cards  (3) Task : ( 10 minutes) -Calls on some Ss to read and explain the questions and their options -Encourages them to predict the answers - Plays CD and gets them to listen attentively to choose the best answers - May pause at the answers so that Ss can get the correct answers easily - Asks them to compare their answers with partners - Calls on some Ss students to give their answers - Checks correct answers on the screen 10 They watch TV  11 They eat a special meal  - Read and explain the questions and their options - Try to predict the answers - Listen to CD attentively to catch the correct their answers - Compare their answers with partners * Key: A Because they want to get rid of the dirt of the old year and welcome the new one B They hear the bells from the TV and the radio C They often wear kimono or special dress B No, they celebrate New Year’s days among family members only IV POST- LISTENING ( minutes) -Group work Work in group: Discuss the following aspects of the Vietnamese New year with those of the Japanese one Expected answers - Ask students group work of a row to compare the aspects of Vietnamese new year with those of Japanese one - Help them to effectively - Calls on some representatives of group their answers, after that other group will support their answers Encourages Students’ spirit of learning by choosing the awards if they did well Clothes Activities on New year’s eve Japanese Vietnamese New year New year Kimono Ao dai, dres - Have a party among family - Have a part - Watch firework among famil friends - Go to shrines - Watch firew - Go to the t pagodas (4) Food People to celebrate with * HOME WORK ( minutes) - Gets Ss to revise the lesson and prepare for the next part- Writing Sushi Banh chung Udon noode Chicken sou Candied– fru Only family Family, relat friends A whole class V REMARK ………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………… (5)
