INTRODUCTION I Rationale First of all, we know that Information Technology has been appeared in Vietnam so early, we can say that: It appears almost at the same time as the evolution of IT in the world In here, we can mention a memorable turning point in the IT Viet Nam's development, that was in 1997, our country has turned the "dream of Internet" into a reality by joining the global network Up to now, Vietnam has become to be a fastest growing Internet country in the region and one of the highest growth countries in the world Going along with the IT development is the growth of the user community The percentage of Internet users in Vietnam has reached more than 50% of the population, the Internet has expanded to all regions of ourcountry Nearly 90% of people use mobile phones, more than 40% that people use the internet on their mobile phones Now, 100% state agencies, especially education agencies, have their own website Finally, more than 95% of schools in Vietnam have taught knowledge of IT for students Student is the age getting access to the internet more and more in our community However, Vietnam has not equipped to students with skills in using the Internet during the Internet management has many shortcomings Students become confused, get trouble about computer problems It is particularly serious when they are not well-professional in avoiding offensive or deceptive content The problems of students definitely come from the first reason: The language barrier Maybe computers and devices are now available for Vietnamese users, but IT is a pioneering field, English is always preferred and applied to this field more than any other field Therefore, equipping yourself with the IT skills comes with English is extremely important In each interview, the recruiter spends favor and opportunities for candidates who have the ability to communicate and English skills than the remaining candidates So, this is the opportunity if you want to work in a company with good conditions, high salaries and a stable environment Even if you are a Japanese company, or a multinational company, you know English and use fluently You will still be given priority II RESEARCH OBJECTIVES - To write some theoreticals for the research topic based on public knowledge - To identify related issues base on information from user community - To lauch some solutions to improve IT skills along with English based on personal experience and support from the community III RESEARCH SCOPE - The study focuses on most problem about IT skills especially Technical English - The target users are HPU2’s student in general and FLF’s student in particular IV RESEARCH METHOD To obtain the results of this study, the following instruments are applied: Qualitative, Inderence method, Interpretation and Report Writing V RESEARCH TASKS The study involves completing the following tasks: - To provide some IT skills required for a student - To point out the FLF’s student’s weakness in solving IT problem - To provide the right solutions - To emphasis on how to acquire knowledge of Technical English VI RESEARCH SINGIFICANCE This research paper is high practical significance for HPU2’s student in general and FLF’s student in particular It can support students a few skills when they encounter a problem related to IT Beside that, it is very valuable in studying at school as well as in future life because IT will forever be parallel with life of anyone Improving IT skills and Technical English vocabulary will not be difficult if you gathered basic knowledge and you understand the importance of this knowledge in the future VII DESIGN OF THE STUDY The thesis is divided into three parts The first part is the Introduction The second part is the Development which includes the “Theoretical Background”, the “Common issues encountered”, the “Solution and Direction” The last part is the you understand clearly what your computer is displaying, what you have done before In some cases, you are angry with supporter, who you are received the help before then you will be back to this problem So, I advise you describe to instructor in a most understandable way and you should not express insecurity and hurried with the instructor This will increase the effectiveness of the solution more and save timeconsuming So, the two factors that you should be noticed when describing the problem are: Describe in detail and keep calm down II.2.2 Mistake in self-resolution FLF students are also anxious to repair the computer beacause it is the best valuable tool in their study 90% of them will make use of their knowledge to hopefully correct the mistake before going to be support Certainly everyone has had problems with their computer, in many cases, it is actually very easy to fix and you not need to spend money to the store and take the waiting time which can themselves be easily overcome Back to the main matter: you not have the necessary equipment, not to mention the basic skills that you want to repair yourself In this situation, you will try to find the necessary tools, try to remember how to from observing or recalling the knowledge in books But you are still trembling, bewildered when meeting your case This is not to blame for you, as any technician who used to be like you, also ruined his own equipment by trying to repair it himself Common mistakes: worn screws, warped plastic joints, broken parts, forgot to reposition the components, lightning, injuries when opening I will give you some recommed:  Going with knowledge always is risky, take a good compare your abilities with the risks you maybe face to  Be careful in every detail step and refer to someone such as your friend, who may be also curious and experienced than you a little  Absolutely not follow unreliable guides or listen to inexperienced people  Be sure to read the instructions carefully, not rush and know how to stop at the right time II.3 THE CAUSE OF ISSUES IN FLF STUDENTS 27 II.3.1 IT problems II.3.1.a Subjective Based on the survey, I am able to synthesize general errors in the use computer of the FLF student FLF students, as well as many other students, have relatively little knowledge and experience with computers, this valuable information can be viewed online I will list the main reasons that students often suffer:  Rarely clean the dirt outside for the machine: it will make them fall into the slits of the machines, which stick to the components making them difficult to heat There are dusty filled and overheating that leads to the failure of other components  Use of crack software: software can indirectly slow down the computer or reduce security  Download software of unknown origin: It can come with many junk software for the computer Women not pay attention to the origin of the software they download, because there are many different sources and not censored  Not update the software patch regularly: Older versions can run bugs, patch updates will fix a lot Many people not install patches just beacause they want to save network bandwidth  Not pay attention to the way to optimize the computer: It can make your computer run slow because of crowded work They think the machine is simply a machine, no need to optimize anything  Place food, drinks near the computer: Food particles can cause dirt, which can be difficult to repair if drink poured in This problem encountered a lot, many cases poured in and completely fail  Use of non-standard computer charger: Damage the Power Supply Unit of computer and damages the battery Some person don’t pay attention to the type of charger they are using  Not turn off the power properly: Abuse of sleep mode when finished working isn’t good for hardware Turning off the computer properly will make the computer more durable  Misdirected "Demand of using": Choosing a low-configuration machine and using it over the recommend level will cause the computer to fail faster, choose the machine configuration is too strong will misspend performance 28 II.3.1.b Objective Based on experience and references from many sources  The weather: Our country's hot and humid climate is very harmful to electronics, especially wet weather in March Restrain the machine in a humid place and keep it running continuously  Poor component quality: some manufacturers use perishable, poor quality components to decrease cost Please select manufacturers reputation and prestige  The quality of the computer is uneven: the same type of product, there will be a small percentage of defective devices  Refurbished, renew product: Difficult to distinguish without expertise Choose a distributor who has clearly origin documentation  Un-humanity in repairing: Some guys are willing to trade poor quality to improve their profitability without regard to customers II.3.2 Technical English problems Undeniably, in Vietnam, English skills are indispensable in the era of integration However, in the current Vietnamese youth, not everyone meets the English requirement Admission of English language teaching and learning is difficult from both sides: English language level of students is limited and uneven, which does not meet the needs of documentary, listening and comprehension Change, express ideas in English; And the foreign language competence of the faculty is not enough to teach entirely in English The workshop also pointed out that specialized lecturers are not fluent in foreign languages and foreign language teachers are not fluent in the major This situation is happening not in any particular school, but in the general situation in Vietnam Many opportunities have passed away in regret because skilled people are not fluent in foreign languages, while foreign language proficiency does not have specialized knowledge in the age of integration, knowledge and use of English is not enough A person needs to be able to use fluent English to communicate, present their knowledge in this language Increasing the training and fostering of specialized English proficiency for faculty and students requires a long and costly financial process Not to mention, learning English in adults is difficult 29 because learning is also influenced by many factors in life and society It is very necessary for a person to be confident in the long journey of life and career, equipped with skills and knowledge as well as foreign languages, especially during the festival These things should be equipped for a person as soon as high efficiency The lack of knowledge of technical English is the main reason for identifying the problem we are getting trouble and challenged, so the language barrier is the most inhibitory barrier It can be illustrated that you saw the key to solving the problem right away in front of your eyes but you can not hold it There are many words you will be surprised when you firtly see it, such as: bootable, dump, driver, re-parttion, these words you rarely encounter when the computer works normally because it only appears if your computer gets error Moreover, understanding the messages will be difficult if you translate like other everyday communication phrases So it is not surprised when the FLF students still not understand what this notice means because they have a lack of IT knowledge and lack of response to specialized terms This is not a difficult problem, especially when you have understood the general meaning of the word, only you not know the meaning has been translated into Vietnamese before Moreover, the inventors are very interested in expressing the problem in the most intelligible way for the user, sometimes because it is too concise and makes the user difficult to understand 30 CHAPTER III SOLUTION AND DIRECTION III.1 HOW TO SOLVE IT PROBLEMS III.1.1 Detect the main issue FLF student need to look closely at the manifestation of the problem, use your hand to touch, check over, eye to observe the error message as well as express at the same time, ear to hear small sounds, … intuitive need a bit sensitive If software defects, please pay attention to keywords, headings, processes, error messages, then try to save the state by taking pictures, writing to paper, … when it’s all collected, we are now beginning to find a way to fix it It may be a little difficult to pinpoint the main cause of the problem here Because both hardware and software have the potential to cause similar problems, such as blue screen errors So how to recognize is the fault of the hardware or software of the computer? Let's also go over some of the following issues:  Computer operation and slow processing: As a rule, over time, the computer or more specifically is the operating system you are using will become slower due to the overloading of software, including malware FLF student will quickly conclude that their computer is out of date, and this is a pretty common conclusion But it's totally wrong! should base on the determinants of the scientific value of the material such as:  The accuracy and scientific objectivity of the material: Often materials on scholarly sites like gov, edu, jar files, the "library" section will be the best option)  The information disclosure process is organized with rigorous scientific objections 33  Prestige, scientific publishing experience of the issuer: It is possible to look at the issuer's rank  Prestige, scientific experience of the author This is usually the forum, the Facebook group where there are many support posts and useful information to help SOLUTION FOR IMPROVE TECHNICAL ENGLISH III.2.1 Student direction FLF students have the following fundamental advantages when learning Technical English, once the ability to communicate in English is at a relative level:  Know how to use (put example sentences) with terminology based on basic structures in English  Understand the meaning of terms based on the knowledge you learned in school, or from work  Know how to express or otherwise query for terms you not know Although there are many general guidelines on how to learn that I have written in many previous articles, there are still many difficulties still in the practice of specialized English I encountered many questions such as: I study English in FLF so how I can study Technical English effectively? How can I read and understand English in a specialized way easily? 36 There are many resources for you to practice reading and listening to specialized terms in different disciplines The thing you need is to identify one of the learning channels you like most English for Technical contains many specialized and rare terms when searching in common dictionaries, so the most common way is to try to understand the context or situation in the most general way and then read it and continue the relevant documents I have the habit of following various news channels to find out the same topic including: newspapers, blogs, videos, television and reading Recognize that topics, hobbies, and different occupations have their own specific terminology So there is language for film, clothing language, basketball Each field has dozens, hundreds or thousands of specialized terms Each term is a word or compound word for each context using a particular word or term that can be used for similar situations Try to understand and not look up the glossary of terms The advice I often repeat is to try to understand a contextual term Dictionary is the last thing you can Although you are using a dictionary containing a lot of entries, the limitation on using terms within it is still very limited Separate use cases will not be listed in a regular dictionary But you can see meaning and comment in more detail with Wikipedia Hope the term you are looking for is not so special that online tools can not help you! However, you can still understand a term through different contexts, used in texts, articles, newspapers In short, you have to learn to know "Link Vocabulary "(The taget language) and avoid using your mother tongue to understand an item Channels for specialized terminology information:  Google (Type directly in an English language and search for related articles)  Wikipedia (find out the definition, origin and usage of a term)  Youtube (see how the video speaks, or illustrate the cartoon of a term or topic you are interested in)  C.E.P (www.cep.com.vn) read articles in bilingual English-Vietnamese in various disciplines  VOBMappping (www.vobmapping.vn) website links vocabulary in the accompanying glossary and links to related articles In order to improve the knowledge of IT, FLF students should also refer to some of Vietnam's tech news such as: 37  Genk.vn  Ictnews.vn  Techz.vn These are the pages I rated as high quality articles, translated from the world famous technology magazines such as:  Gsmarena.com  Pcworld.com  Techradar.com  Cnet.com  Theverge.com Understanding the keywords that often appear on the computer, the technology device is very important, it helps you better understand a variety of mechanisms as well as identify the problem One more thing that you need to keep in mind, learning the Technical English will be much easier and easier if you have mastered the common terms in everyday life and are able to use them in the Communication situation III.2.2 Education policy At FLF, I noticed that the leaders had a right orientation when there were more IT priorities for students However, FLF needs more ways to extend IT knowledge to students, adding Technical English vocabulary in the unit FLF also needs to conduct surveys, collect students' opinions and encourage new proposals, etc., to assess and calculate the feasibility FLF students should also boldly recommend the comments through faculty, presenting their wishes When doing research, students in the 3rd and 4th year of FLF should also pay attention to the issues of high application in teaching to bring useful knowledge to students next year 38 PART C RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSION The previous chapters outlined the problems and directions for FLF students The conclusions will provide pedagogical implications for English language teaching, outlining some of the limitations, contributions of the study as well as suggestions for further research I.PEDAGOGICAL SUGGESTION FOR TEACHING TECHNICAL ENGLISH In this study, I myself have no ambition to go into the IT field because this is a difficult field, which requires a lot of core knowledge The following suggestions are based on own idea: • Adding some types of Technical English exercises: Adding IT knowledge through exercises of these types of exercises helps students to memorize longer This method is easy to implement by the instructors themselves • Organize more exchanges between the English department and the IT department: the exchanges will help both sides to benefit, enhance the relationship as well as add specialized knowledge • Turning Technical English into one of the main topics in the "Applying ICT in English" course: This course previously taught students about office skills Now, I would like to have additional lessons to help students overcome and solve computer problems II SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTHER STUDIES The issue of how to provide FLF student IT skills is still an unfinished topic I hope this article gives other researchers more opportunities for further research For example, people who want to learn more about the direction of teaching IT skills in different situations Other researchers in the Department of Foreign Languages can elaborate more on how to incorporate Technical English knowledge into the lesson My research can become suggestions for new topics to enhance the comprehensive quality of FLF students at HPU2 III LIMITATION OF THE RESEARCH 39 Although I have made a lot of effort to learn and experience IT issues with FLF students, certain limitations can be identified in this study due to time constraints and other
