Unit 5: STUDY HABIT LESSON 5: WRITING

Aims: To give the students the format of a letter and show them how to write an information letter. Objectives: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to write a letter.

Skills: Writing, Reading, Speaking

Teaching aids: poster, book, model writing, cues. Languages:

I. WARMER: Word picking out

Pick out the things that we can use to contact with others

Car, bike, telephone, table, letter, radio, television Key: telephone, letter, radio, television.

- Controls the game - Play game

20’ II. PRE- WRITING:

1. Pre-teach vocabulary :

- Enjoyable (adj) = interesting (adj): thú vị - Good grade : hạng cao

- Result (n): kết

- The Lunar New Year: tết nguyên đán - To celebrate (v): tổ chức

- A post card (n): bưu thiếp

- The Mid-Autumn Festival: teát trung thu  Rub out and remember : 2. Set the scene :

We are going to write a letter 3. Discussion:

- How many parts are there in a letter? - What are they?

- What you write in each part? 4. The format of a letter:

a Heading: - Address

- Date

b Opening: - Dear, receiver’s name

- Using the information/ outline (2 page 51), help Lan write a letter to her pen pal
