(1)Cách dùng từ Both/Neither/Either 1 Both/ neither/ eitther
- Ta dùng both / neither / either với hai vật, việc, v.v Bạn dùng các từ với danh từ (both books, neither books )
Ví dụ, bạn nói việc ăn tiệm chiều Có hai nhà hàng mà bạn có thể tới, bạn nói:
- Both restaurants are very good (khơng nói “the both restaurants”) Cả hai nhà hàng ngon.
- Neither restauranrs is expensive Không nhà hàng đắt
- We can go to either restaurant I don’t mind
Chúng ta tới nhà hàng Tơi khơng có ý kiến (either = hai, được)
2 Both of /Neither of / Either of
Khi bạn dùng both / neither / either + of, bạn luôn cần thêm the / these / those / my / your / his / Tom’s (v.v ) Bạn khơng thể nói “both of restaurant” Bạn phải nói “both of the restaurants”, “both of those restaurants” v.v
- Both of these restaurants are very good Cả hai nhà hàng ngon
- Neither of the restaurants we went to was (or were) expensive Khơng có số hai nhà hàng mà tới đắt
- I haven’t been to either of those restaurants (= I haven’t been to one or the other) Tôi chưa tới nơi số hai nhà hàng
Bạn khơng cần thêm of sau both Vì bạn nói:
- Both my parents are from London hay Both of my parents Hai bố mẹ người Luân đôn
Bạn dùng both of / neither of / either of + us / you / them
(talking to two people) Can either of you speak Spanish ?
(2)- I asked two people the way to the station but either of them knew Tôi hỏi hai người đường đến sân vận động hai khơng biết
Bạn phải nói both of trước us/you/them (of cần phải có)
- Both of us were very tired (khơng nói ‘Both us were ’) Cả hai mệt
Sau neither of động từ chia số hay số nhiều được
- Neither of the children wants (hay want) to go to bed Không đứa bọn trẻ muốn ngủ
3 Both/ Neither/ Either đứng mình Bạn dùng both / neither / either đứng mình
- I couldn’t decide which of the two shirts to buy I like both (hay I like both of them) Tôi định mua hai áo Tơi thích hai - “Is your friend British or American?”
“Neither She’s Autralian.”
“Bạn anh người Anh hay Mỹ ?” “Đều Cô người Úc.” - “Do you want tea or coffee?”
“Either I don’t mind.” “Anh muốn trà hay cà phê?”
“Thứ Tôi không bận tâm.”
4 Both and/ Neither nor/ Either or
Bạn nói:
both and · Both Ann and Tom were late Cả Ann Tom đến muộn
neither nor · Neither Liz nor Robin came to the party Cả Liz Robin không đến dự tiệc
- She said she would contact me but she neither wrote nor phoned

- I’m not sure where he’s from He’s either Spanish or Italian

Hoặc anh xin lỗi không nói chuyện với anh
5 So sánh Both/ Neither/ Either Any/ None/ All
Hãy so sánh either / neither / both (hai thứ) any / none / all (nhiều hai): ► either / neither / both
- There are two good hotels in the town You can stay at either of them Có hai khách sạn tốt thị trấn Anh
- We tried two hotels Neither of them had any rooms / Both of them were full
Chúng tới hai khách sạn Khơng hai cịn phịng Cả hai kín người ► any / none / all
- There are many good hotels in the town You can stay at any of them
Có nhiều khách sạn tốt thị trấn Anh số chúng - We tried a lot of hotels None of them had any rooms / All of them were full
