LESSON PLAN

Unit 9: UNDERSEA WORLD E.LANGUAGE FOCUS 1 Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to use Should and conditional type appropriately

2 Teaching aids:

Textbook, pictures

3 Anticipated

Ss may find it difficunt to use the conditional type 2, so teacher should prepare a lot of practice

PROCEDURE

1 Should and Shouldn’t (20’) a Presentaion:

-T revises the use of should and shouldn’t quickly

+In this lesson, should and shouldn’t are used to offer solutions and give strong advice

You should sth = it is a good thing to or it is the right thing to do

Ex:

1.You look tired You should go to bed

2.The government should ban cigarette smoking in public places

You sholdn’t to sth = it isn’t a good thing to do.

Ex:

You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the newspapers

We usually use should with i think/ I don’t think/ you think…?

Ex:

1 I think people should protect the sea I don’t think Lan should work so hard Do you think i should go out to relax?

b Practice

-T asks Ss to exercise and

-T asks Ss to compare their answers with another student -T gives correct answers

Exercise 1:

-T shows some picture and asks Ss to make sentences with should/shouldn’t

-T elicits the form, meaning and use o the conditional sentence type -T revises the form, meaning and use of the conditional sentence type

Meaning: The second conditional is used to talk about things which

are unreal (not true or not possible) in the present or the future

Use: It is not used to talk about things that can happen in the present

or the future. Ex:

1 If i was you, i would drive more carefully in the rain (I am not you, this is unreal thing)

2 Paula would be sad if Peter left

(Peter will not leave, that is not going to happen)

b Practice

-T asks Ss to exercise in pairs

-T asks them to compare answers with another pair -T asks some Ss to read out their answers

-T feedbacks and gives coerrect answers

-T asks the Ss in group A to write If-Clauses (ex: if i was a fog), and the Ss in group B to write the independent clauses with would (ex: i would marry to the Princess of Wales)

-Then teacher collects and matches them at random It will be a very fun experience

-T summarises the main points

-T asks Ss to the extra exercise as homework

Extra exercise:

Write a conditional sentence type for each situation.

1 I don’t have a big house I can’t invite many friends to my Birthday party => If i have a big house, i would invite many friends to my Birthday party. He drinks too much coffee He can’t sleep well at night
