(1)9/17/2019 Lesson plan Unit 12: The Asian games Language focus Coach: Lai Thi Phuong Thao Trainee: Phi Thi Huyen Trang Class description: 34 pupils of 11G of M.V Lomonoxov high school Time: 45’ Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Pronounce the clusters /str/, /skr/, /skw/ - Revise the use of relative clauses and equivalent types of clauses without relative pronouns Assumed knowledge: Ss have already learnt a little bit the use of relative clauses Anticipated problems: Students may not have difficulty in pronouncing the clusters because they not exist in Vietnamese Therefore, teacher should guide them to pronounce correctly Materials: handouts, blackboard, textbook Procedures Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up - Divide class into groups (5 mins) - Ask Ss to work in groups to match these words - Listen to the teacher with their pictures - Work in groups - Send one member to E Screw go to the board & F Strong - Call one member of each group to go A Squeeze B Screen C Scream D Square write the answers to the board & write the answers - check St’s answers  lead to the lesson Language focus (35 mins) A Pronunciation (10 mins) - Listen to the teacher - T: introduces some clusters such as /str/, /skr/, /skw/ - T: guides Sts to produce these clusters: when producing /str/, you should produce /s/ first and then quickly switch to /tr/ + For example: street, strong, stream, stress… Lop11.com (2) 9/17/2019 + The way of producing /skr/, /skw/ is the same - T: asks Sts to practice speaking these clusters - Practice speaking these clusters - T: reads examples which begin with these clusters - Listen and repeat (page 144) first then asks Sts to listen and repeat - Work in pairs to practice speaking - T: asks Sts to listen to the teacher then to work in pairs and take turn aloud the sentences on page 144 - Read the sentences again - T: goes around the class to see Sts practicing Then T calls some Sts to read again and gives them feedback - Listen to their teacher’s feedback B Grammar - Listen to their teacher Answer the question - Look at the board Listen to their teacher I Revision of relative clauses - ask Ss to give kinds of relative clauses - give answers Defining Relative Clause - tells which noun we are talking about Without the defining relative clause, we cannot understand the meaning of the sentence E.g I like the woman who lives next door Non-defining relative clause - gives extra information about something We don’t need this information to understand the sentence E.g I live in London, which has some beautiful parks - We don’t use ‘that’ in non-defining relative clauses but use a comma after relative pronouns or relative clause Relative pronouns + who: for people : + which: for things + that: for people or things + whose: replaces a possessive It can be used for people and things + where: for place + when: for time Lop11.com (3) 9/17/2019 + why: for reason - The relative pronoun is the subject: The woman who/ that lives next door is a doctor - The relative pronoun is the object: The dog which you gave me is lovely II Omission of relative pronouns Notice: We can leave out the pronoun when it is not the subject of the relative clause The dog which you gave me is lovely = The dog you gave me is lovely III Practice  Exercise (p.144) - T: explains the requirement and then example: - Listen to their teacher’s requirement Example: I like the diamond ring……………………… => Mary is wearing - ask Sts to work in pairs to exercise on page 144 -T goes around the class to observe the students to - work in pairs to each sentence Read their answers -When time is up, T calls some Sts to read their - Listen to their teacher’s answers answers -T checks Sts’ answers  Exercise (p.145) - T: explains the requirement and then analyze the - Listen to the teacher - Work in pairs example - ask Sts to work to the exercise in pairs - T goes around the class and provide help - T calls some Sts to read their answers and check - Listen to their teacher’s answers  Exercise (p.145): -T calls one student to read aloud the requirement of - T explains new words if any - T asks Sts to the exercise T goes around the class to observe the students to - Read the requirement of exercise - Listen to their teacher - Work individually - Listen to their teacher’s answers Lop11.com (4) 9/17/2019 -When time is up, T calls some Sts to read their answers -T checks Sts’ answers WrappingT summarizes the main points: up (3 + Pronounce the clusters /str /, / skr /, and /skw / mins) + Master the use of relative clauses and equivalent types of clauses without relative pronouns - T asks students to + Revise the lesson at home + Prepare for Reading of Unit 13 - T says goodbye to the class Lop11.com -Repeat the main points - Write the contents of homework (5)
