Starting Regedit By default, Regedit.exe is copied to the %SystemRoot% (for example, D:\WINNT) during the installation of the operating system. To start Regedit.exe, find the file and double-click it, or use the Run command from the Start menu. Like most of the other viewing tools now available for Windows operating systems, Registry Editor has a user interface similar to that of Windows Explorer. Note that Regedit is simply a tool for registry visualization, and all of the magic is hidden behind the scenes rather than in the UI. In practice, the similarity between Regedit and Explorer goes further than simple analogy. For example, the same menu commands for keyboard shortcuts are used for creating new registry elements. Regedit.exe uses context (right-click) menus similar to Explorer. Despite interface improvements, however, Regedit.exe doesn't provide any warnings to the user, nor does it recognize errors. What's more, it doesn't have an Undo command, meaning that most operations are irreversible.   .
