Để đưa đề xuất gợi ý, ta dùng:

a) suggest + V-ing:

For examples,

- I suggest collecting some money - I suggest giving lessons to poor children - I suggest organizing a show to raise money

b) suggest (that) + S + should:

For examples,

- I suggest (that) you should buy a good dictionary

- I suggest (that) you should write sentences with new words

II/ Connectives (Liên từ nối)

Từ nối hay gọi liên từ (conjunction) từ dùng để kết hợp từ, cụm từ, mệnh đề câu với Liên từ chia thành nhiều nhóm:

a) Nhóm thêm vào: and (và)

For examples,

- Mrs Quyen bought corn, potatoes and cabbages at the market

- Ba’s hobbies are playing football and collecting stamps

b) Nhóm mâu thuẫn trái ngược: but (nhưng), however (tuy nhiên)

For examples,

- I’d love to play volleyball but I have to complete an assignment

- We are vey tired However, we have to finish our homework before we go to bed c) Nhóm lựa chọn đốn chừng: or (hoặc)

For examples,

- Do you want Vietnamese tea or milk tea?

- You stay here, or I leave

d) Nhóm kết quả: so (vì thế, cho nên), therefore (vì vậy)

For examples,

- It’s raining, so I can’t go to the beach

- You failed your math test Therefore, you have to the test again

d) Nhóm nguyên nhân lý do: because (vì, vì)

For examples,

- Nam got wet because he forgot his umbrella

- I ordered my tickets early because I was in the front of the balcony

Cụm động từ (phrasal verbs) hay gọi động từ có hai từ (two-word verb) kết hợp động từ trạng từ giới từ

Phần lớn cụm động từ kết hợp động từ trạng từ (verb + adverb) thường có nghĩa đặc biệt (khác hồn tồn với hai nghĩa gốc)

Ex: turn off (tắt), turn on (mở), turn down (từ chối), look for (tìm kiếm), look after (chăm sóc, trơng nom), look out

(coi chừng), go on (tiếp tục), give up (từ bỏ) … Hanh will have to look after her little sister Turn on the TV for me, will you?

Lưu ý:

- Khi cụm động từ có tân ngữ (object) số trường hợp tân ngữ đứng hai vị trí: trước sau trạng từ

Ex: She took her coat off

Or: She took off her coat

- Nhưng tân ngữ đại từ (me/them/it/him …) tân ngữ ln đứng trước trạng từ

Ex: My mother gave me a new dress and told me to put it on
