What are the mean level post-test scores of the control group and experimental group? Is there a significant difference on post-test scores between the experimental group and the control group? Is there any effect of task-based approach in teaching reading comprehension performance of the students in Nam Dinh University of Nursing basing on tests? A teacher-made achievement test was validated and administered as a pre-tests and post-test to both groups Lesson plans were prepared for teaching students in the experimental group The t-test of independent sample means was employed to compare the pre-test mean of the two groups and post-test mean of the two groups The t-test of dependent sample means was also used to compare the pretest and post-test mean of experimental group The study revealed the following significant findings In respect to mean level of pre-test score of students, there is no significant difference on the pre-test mean scores of the two groups The control group obtained the mean score of 5.70 while the experimental group gained 6.10 in the mean score The result revealed VIII that there was little significant difference between two groups in the pretest Therefore, the two groups were homogeneous at the beginning of the study The mean score of students in the post-test using the Task-based approach differs significantly from that of those using the traditional approach After the treatment period, the two groups were given a post-test The mean scores of the control and experimental groups were 6.25 and 6.85 respectively When subjected to t-test, the result showed that there is a significant difference between post-test mean scores of the respondents in the control group and experimental group (p-value computed = 0.018, tcomputed= 2.43) The mean score of students in the pre-test differs significantly from that in the post-test using Task-based approach (p-value computed = 0.001, t-computed= 3.45) Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: There was significant difference on post-test scores between the experimental group and the control group There was an effect of task-based approach in teaching reading comprehension performance of the students in Nam Dinh University of Nursing basing on tests IX The alternative hypothesis which indicated that there is no significant difference on post-test score between the control group and experimental group, and there is no effectiveness of task-based approach in teaching reading comprehension on performance of the students in Nam Dinh University of Nursing based on tests have not been supported in this study TABLE OF CONTENTS Preliminaries Page TITLE i APPROVAL SHEET ii ACKNOWLEDGMENT iii DEDICATION vi ABSTRACT vii TABLE OF CONTENTS xi LIST OF TABLES xv X LIST OF FIGURES xvi CHAPTER THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Background of the Study Theoretical Framework Conceptual Framework Statement of the Problem Hypotheses 10 Significance of the Study 10 Scope and Limitations of the Study 11 Definition of Terms 12 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES 14 Related Literature 14 Related Studies 18 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 24 Research Design 24 Respondent of the Study 24 Determination of Sampling Techniques 25 Research Instrument 25 Research Procedure 26 Statistical Treatment of Data 27 PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION 72 in VN *homework Asking students to write Comments: 73 LESSON PLAN N0 05 Unit 6A: Reading: COMPETITIONS Preparing date: ……………… Teaching date : ……………… I Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to to get information about the competitions; guess the meanings of new words from the context; use the new words for speaking , questions- answers II Teaching Aids: Textbook, pictures, posters, cassette player, tapes III Methods: Task-based approach IV Teaching steps: Classroom procedure: Greeting & Checking attendance Revision: Call one or two students to come to the board and ask them to change into Reported Speech: Rewrite the following sentences using the word in the bracket: He said to her, “Come to the party You’ll enjoy it.” (persuade) He said to me, “I’ll lend you some money if you like.” (offer) “All right I’ll help you,” Tom said to Joe (agree) Check up and give marks New lesson: 74 Teacher’s activities I Before you read: Lead- in: -Ask students to look at the pictures and ask them some questions: -Ask students some questions related - Lead in the new lesson Pre-teach vocabulary: - Ask students to give the new words -Give the feedback and introduce new words Sts’ activities Contents Some questions: -Work in What competitions you know?
