Objectives: At the end of the period, pupils will be able to: say and respond to goodbye, using Goodbye/ Bye/ Good night and See you tomorrow/ See you later

Language focus Phonics: morning, afternoon

Sentence patterns: Good morning.

Vocabulary: Goodbye/ Bye/ See you tomorrow/ See you later. Resources Student’s book, CD, puppets, flash cards

PROCEDURES

Warm up: Ask Ss to play the Slap the board game, using flash card of good morning, good

afternoon, good evening, good night, goodbye.

1 Look, Listen and repeat:

- Ask Ss to open their book on page - Tell pupils that they are going to learn to say and respond to goodbye Ask them some questions such as Who are they ? Where are they ? and what are they saying - Ask Ss to look at the dialogues on the board Pronounce the focused sounds a few times as a model

- Play the recording for Ss to listen and repeat the focused sounds

2. Point and say. - Ask Ss to look at the pictures on page 8.

Help Ss to identify the part of the day in each picture

Tell Ss that they are going to practice saying and responding to goodbye

- Point to first picture and get one pupil to say Goodbye See you tomorrow, and

another to respond Goodbye See you tomorrow Repeat the procedure with the

next picture Point to the third picture and get one pupil to say Good night, and another to respond Good night

- Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class

- Announce the answers to the class Provide explanations when necessary

Language notes:

- See you tomorrow or See you later is used to respond to people who say goodbye. Good night is used to respond to someone who says Good night before going to bed.

- Call on a few pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class Correct the pronunciation, if necessary

- Play the recording once more for Ss to check their answers

- Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class - Announce the answers to the class Provide explanations when necessary

Ask Ss to open their book on page 10

Play the CD and have Ps repeat each line of the chant Then change the role

Focus Ps’ attention on the letters colored differently in the words Linda and night -Introduce the sounds /l/ and /n/

-Have Ps practice the sounds carefully

-Play the CD and have Ps read the chant in chorus

-Ask Ps to give which sounds in Vietnamese are similar to, and then have Ps read words after you

+ Ask some pairs to ask and answer

+ Have Ps recite the chant and clap the syllable to reinforce their pronunciation
