Aims and objectives: - By the end of the lesson ss will be able to understand about the Library of Congress in New York , a famous library and pratice the comparatives and superlatives. II. Language focus: *Grammar: comparatives and superlatives. *Vocabulary: The library of Congress III. Skills: Reading, writing, speaking,listening, Chain game, Rub Out and Remember, T / F Prediction, Comprehension Questions, Write it up IV. Teaching aids: Text book, lesson plan, pictures V.Procedures: Stage Ti me Teacher's activities Ss'activities Warm - up: Presentation : Pre- Listening: While- Listening: 5' 5' 3' 3' - Chain game: T writes the sentence with the structure “ there be ” and ask Ss… to expand the sentence. S1: There are history books in the library … - Teacher introduces the contents of the text. * Pre- teach vocabulary: - presentation the words,situation, sytonym, picture, modelling • New words: • Congress.(n) (translation) Quèc héi • Capital. Teacher introduces the contents of the text. B3. Listen : *Open Prediction: - Ss look at the picture p48 and guess what books are on the racks and shelves.( 2+ 3 + 4 + 5 +6+7). *Grid: - Ss listen and fill in the grid. Then compare with their prediction. - Ss describe books in the library. Answer teacher’s questions. Then answer. *T/F Prediction. - T sets the scene to introduce the lesson."These statements are about one of the biggest libraries in the world. All of you have to read them and guess which statements is true and which is not true." - Then show ss the poster with the sentences about the Library of Congress. - Asks them to work individually, read the sentences and predict what are they True/ False. a. The library of Congress is in New York. b. It receives copies of all English books. c. There are over 100 million books in this library. d. The shelves are about 300 km long. e. 5,000 people work in the library. - Then T gets feetback from ss. - Ss read the text and check their prediction. a.- F (The library congress in Washington DC) b.- F (There are copies of all American books.) c. -T d. - F e.- T * Lucky numbers: - T asks ss to work in groups and choose the cards answer the qs and get marks. 1-d, 2- LN, 3-e , 4- b, 5- LN, 6 - a, 7 - c. work Repeat T - whole class Copy down Close the book and guess Copy in their notobooks. - Ss listen to T. - Look at the poster and predict what are they true/ false statements. Read checking Compare Correct Post- reading: Consolidatio n: Home work: 4' 2' 3' Answer keys: a) It is in Washington D.C, the capital of the USA. b) It has over 100 million books. c) It has about 1,000 km of shelves./ Its shelves are about 1,000km long. d) Over 5,000 people work there. e) Because it receives copies of all American books. 4. Post- Reading: - Ss compare their school library with the library of Congress.
