Welcome to Your Website: How to Create a Lead-Generating Machine That Works While You Sleep I'm Ram it Sethi, and in this lesson, I'm going to talk to you about how to create a website that converts, that helps grow your business, not just looks like a pretty business card So let's get started with a 6o-second recap We talked about The Psychology of Traffic, how it's important not just to get quantity, but to get the right quality We talked about the 10X power of being remarkable, why people still talk about pieces I wrote years and years ago, and while they still accumulate benefits, opt-ins, even revenue, just because I took the extra time to make them remarkable All this comes back to being authentic and breaking through the noise It's so easy to write a commodity piece of content So easy to go out and try to target everyone But doing the work below the iceberg, really being patient and knowing this is a long-term process makes everything different than competing against everyone else Now, I recommended at this point, that you have at least three positive responses from real people before starting to build your website Why? First of all, it means that you're validating You're doing the right thing As you're emailing out different bloggers, getting advice, you want to know that you're on the right track You don't have to agree with everyone, but I think it's critical to listen to the market rather than continue plowing through blindly without listening to anyone else Second, tweaking and listening are important The truth is, there's not a solitary genius that's sitting up high in his office, creating magic material, and not listening to anyone else That type of visionary is trumpeted in the press, but the truth is that all successful people listen to the market around them The real winners are listening and iterating based on what they learn So here's what we're going to cover in this lesson We're going to cover the elements of an effective website, and I think the most important part is what you can ignore for now This is so important To me, it's a relief to know all the things I don't have to worry about right now We're going to talk about why building a website is something we typically later, not right up front like so many others Finally, how to take this drive-by traffic that comes to your site, whether it's from Google or some other source, and actually convert them into qualified leads Now, [here's a] quick look at the big picture here We've gone through Idea Mapping and really gotten deep into the heads of our market We've created a Profit Playbook We've learned about the difference between remarkable content and commodity content We started to reach out and get some attention from the right audience Now, and only now, are we ready to talk about creating your website I want to start off, as I so often do, by talking about what the average person does here I call this the terrible, no-good, very bad website strategy that most people pursue You see, it's interesting that most people often jump to tactical maneuvers instead of taking just a little bit of time to plan it out ZERO T O L AllNCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 In the career space, this is the equivalent of updating your resume In fact, if you talk to anyone who wants to find a new job, what's the first thing they do? "Oh, I've got to update my resume." So they update it, feeling as if they're doing something productive Whereas, my Dream Job students know that they need to take the time to identify their dream job, etc., natural networking So it might take them longer to update their resume, but when they do, they know they're doing exactly the right thing at exactly the right time It would have been easy for you to have created a website weeks or even months ago But if you think about it, what would you have put on the website? Would you have known the intricacies of your market? Would you have known exactly the words they use or what motivates them to actually convert and join your email list? No So it's not enough to just put up a website It may make people feel accomplished, but we're not about just feeling accomplished We're about doing the right thing at the right time That's what the Zero to Launch system is about So you, to your credit, have been hard at work, evaluating ideas, doing research, and reaching out to the market to hear what they think of your idea Now, you are way ahead, while other people will continue to tweak their website over and over and over again See, just a quick reiteration here The invisible work that you've done is two to 10 times harder than what other people do, but 100 times more valuable over the long term These are general approximations, but I've found them to be 100% true When to create your website is something we think a lot about First, you should have an idea that you validated with the market You've done your homework You've come up with a plan You've created one to five pieces of remarkable content that you're ready to share with the world Now, when I launched I Will Teach You To Be Rich, I had a dream That dream was getting months ahead, in terms of my writing calendar That almost never happened, even years and years later But it's nice to know that you can create one to five pieces of remarkable content Get to know that it's not going to run out You have a limitless amount of material you can write about We're going to show you how to that I also want to note that ideally you have a few people standing by who have already expressed an interest in promoting your material Notice that they can this without you even having a website It can be as simple as you writing a remarkable piece and sending it to them as an attachment, and them saying, "Oh, that sounds really interesting I would love to put that up as a guest post." That is great market validation Now, the reason that I'm talking about when to create a website is that I want to hammer home the point that you should be disciplined enough to wait So many novices begin by saying, "I need a website I need this I need an email list I need everything at once." But we're not rushing We're not going to be harried or frazzled We're going to be deliberate and methodical Now keep in mind that when you launch a website, it doesn't mean you're locking yourself into this specific topic for the rest of your life ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 Just think about I Will Teach You to be Rich It started off about personal finance, moved onto entrepreneurship, careers, online business, social skills, and so many other things But we want interest and validation We don't just want to launch this blindly and say, "Oh, I'll change this to whatever the market tells me later." You want to that hard work right now That's why a few people standing by, who have already expressed interest, will set you apart from everyone else Now let's talk about the business side of your website We're going to cover the how-to resources to create a website pretty soon, but what I want to talk about is something very different That is the strategic business side of creating a website See, it's really easy to find advice from people who will say, "Make sure your website has these 19 different types of pages, and you must put your opt-in form above the fold," and all these different things They talk to you about design because it's easy It's easy to tell someone, "Use these color combinations, or this logo on the left-side of the page, not the right." That's easy, tactical maneuvers That doesn't generate the kind of business that you're looking to Ultimately let's get clear Your website doesn't reflect how good of a person you are Your website serves only one purpose, and that is to generate business for you Let me show you what I mean by taking a trip back into a time machine This is what I Will Teach You To Be Rich used to look like I mean, look at this horrible design In fact, you'll see my friend, Andrew Warner, down there saying, "What Ram it's site looked like when he started #Justlaunchyoulazybastard." This website is not attractive You have to click to get into every blog post I mean, it just doesn't look good But it was the first step for me to start writing and practice This picture speaks a thousand words, in telling you this is about the long game This is not about rushing and getting the most beautiful site up first This is about getting the site that's right for you, right now Take a look at what I Will Teach You To Be Rich looks like now It's very different, and I'm not just talking about visually There's a lot of different things that have gone into our new website design, different positioning You'll notice that personal finance is de-emphasized, and other things have become more emphasized Again, if you tried to this right now, it would make no sense But my hope in showing you this picture is to show you that really the design is not as important as so many people think My philosophy on this is "good enough" "good enough" to generate thousands of dollars per day Let me show you what I mean Ifi reverted back to that old design today, my business would still be fine Yeah, my opt-ins would go down a little bit Yes, my revenue would go down a little bit But my business would still succeed Why? Because of the iceberg Everyone is looking at the top of the iceberg "Look at that cool new box he put on his website." But actually there's an entire game being played around them that they don't even realize The real business is happening below the water, in the iceberg business systems that I've set up So take a look here I love scrappiness Embrace it You're not going to have the best design right now That's okay Your brand is going to grow over time It's going to evolve over ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 time You're going to get more sophisticated over time So my philosophy is don't try to be 40 before you're 40 See, what I mean by that is when I first went to buy a car, I could have bought a lot of different cars I bought a four-door Honda Accord One of the things I was thinking of was, "should I buy this Mercedes?" I thought to myself, that's not a car for a 22-year-old to buy Where you go from there? I think we all know friends, to share another example, they always seemed like they were 10 years older than you They're the same age, but they always acted a little bit older I never understood it because we're all going to age We're all going to be 40 or so or 6o or however old Why not embrace the life stage we're at? If you're in your 20s, that means have fun Do certain things that 20-year-olds because when you're 40, you're not going to be able to that When you're 40, you're going to have different responsibilities and different interests Embrace it For a lot of people, that means don't try to pitch the New York Times when you're first starting out It's just not the right thing to Finally remember that anyone can have a pretty website I know many, many entrepreneurs who have beautiful websites, and they generate zero revenue So many students are doing this, and it's an epidemic My goal for you is to focus on the business side of the site because once you're generating so much revenue you don't know what to with it, you can pay someone to make your website look way more beautiful That's exactly the model that I did for myself Now before we go on, just a couple of notes I see this with a lot of students They compare their first website to someone else's website that's been around for 10years If you tried to compare yourself to my site, not only I have more revenue to pay a designer and strategist and things like that, but I have very different goals than someone who's just starting off So don't compare yourself to other people's sites It's okay to get inspiration from them I think that's really important But often times, if you're comparing yourself to another site, they have different goals, and you're just playing two totally different games The second thing I want to note is one of my students, when we were in testing for Zero to Launch, she created a website, and she would not put it up I said, "Where's your website?" This happened over the period of a couple of weeks And she finally said, you know, "I've been working on the copy I've been moving the logos around." She was iterating on her site like sooo times The truth is, she needed to make a call and get it out there for the market to let her know what was right and wrong That was a big psychological barrier that she had to eventually get used to It doesn't have to be the best It has to be good enough to support your business as part of your system So with that in mind, let's move on now to the next slide I start off here, talking about what you can skip for now because these are the things that are unnecessary for a "good enough" website Let's take a look at these You don't need a fancy logo or professional head shots You don't need credibility markers, like testimonials or press logos You definitely not need ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 the latest social buttons, apps, or widgets One thing that I didn't get when I first started off is you actually don't need to have a year's worth of content before you anything In fact, I have seen web sites that actually launch with almost no content and instead, they tell you what you will get when you opt in So they'll say, "Here are the types of material I'll be releasing: mouthwatering bullet point one, two, three." People actually opt-in, and there's no material on the site at all Now, are all these things great? Of course Should you have them at some point in your website's lifetime? Of course But you don't need them right now to create a "good enough" website Here's what you need At a minimum, I'd like your website to have these five things First of all, a name, stock images or photos, one to five published blog posts, a prominent email opt-in form, and two pages: an about page and a contact page Each of these can be set up without any real technical or design skills So let's take a closer look This stuff is very simple to do, and once you get it up, you will start seeing your business moving into action Let's talk about the name A common mistake that I saw a lot in the personal finance world was people choosing something way too limiting This didn't become apparent until years later In this example, I'm going to use my own website as a good example, I Will Teach You To Be Rich Although, there's a lot of debate over the name Is it a good name? Is it not? It certainly gave me room to grow "Rich" is broadly defined and that can be anything from personal finance, entrepreneurship, careers, to many other things A bad example would be "credittipsfor2oyearolds.com." That is going to be extremely limiting and when you think ahead, when you're 25 or 35 are you really going to be wanting to write on that site and I saw a lot of heartache as people had to take a site they had invested years in and change over to something and lose all their links, etc Another thing that I see is people focusing on SEQ keywords rather than memorability and branding So, a good example here is thepointsguy.com, an extremely popular site relating to frequent flier miles That's very evocative Oh, it's the guy who talks about points the points guy In this case a bad example would be, "howtogetfreeairlinepoints.com." Now see a lot of people are very big on SEQ and keywords stuffing but we're going to try to keep things really simple Pick a name that is evocative that lets people remember you Finally, if you're stuck, you can always start out using your own name There's a lot debate in naming circles about whether to do, "Iwillteachyoutoberich.com," or "RamitSethi.com." I want to give you a quick philosophy on making these kinds of decisions because they can be really, really paralyzing Years ago, I co-founded a Silicon Valley startup and we raised several million dollars in venture capital and when you raise money, you get a board of advisers and you have board meetings every month So we had these board meetings with these very experienced venture capitalists and advisers and once a month they would come in and they would review our financials and our strategies and they would give us feedback and ask very penetrating questions ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 At one point in the company's history we decided to change our pricing but changing your pricing is a very big decision How are older customers going to react, what's the market going to say, what about your competition And so around let's say January, we floated the idea Around March we talked about a little bit of research we'd been doing, and finally around June we were still talking about debates and one VC, one venture capitalist, he actually dropped the pages on the table and pounded the table and said, "You guys have been talking about this fucking decision for months Just make a decision and go with it." I remember being very startled because this is not the normal way that he talked, but years later I still remember it He was right We had been sitting there debating this for months and months and it would have been better to simply make a decision and learn from it Instead of sitting there and endlessly debating it, I made these mistakes over and over again For example, we were wondering how to sequence out blog posts versus emails We debated it at IWT for over a year and finally we just made a decision and we learned from what the market told us and then we iterated In this case it's tough to iterate on a name but I would like you to not get up on it There's many, many successful companies that have crazy names and crazy domains Pick one, think it through, and move on Here's a great example of a site name that I love: FirstClassFlyer.com This site is rumored to seven figures in revenue and I strongly encourage you to take a look at it It is a very sophisticated direct response site What I mean by that is that if you click around there's really only one thing you can and that is sign up for their service There's not links off the site It's all self-contained and if you look closely you'll notice that the only screenshot on this page is a screenshot of the website you're looking at right now It's very meta, very recursive, and very interesting what this site does FirstClassFlyer.com is very evocative in it's name You instantly know what you're getting when you go to FirstClassFlyer.com Here's another one: StevePavlina.com First of all, look at the design It is not that attractive from a design perspective Now I know Steve Nice guy, but this is not the most attractive site and I think he would agree with that but it's one of the most popular personal development sites online The material is phenomenal and so the design itself is way less important This is a great example of a site that is successful for its users It's focused on personal development for smart people Great niching It has great content and the name and design are largely irrelevant Next, let's talk about stock images and photos When you first start, your site's going to look a little empty That's fine We use a site called istockphoto.com if we need stock images It's relatively inexpensive You can put $50 in your account You can usually get images for a few bucks It's not very expensive at all You can use these images in your header, in your sidebar and within your blog posts as needed Again, it's not something you need to do, but if you'd like to, I'd like to showyouhowthis looks on real websites Take a look at this site, CopyBlogger You'll notice that there's only one image above the fold This is a very popular site, but notice how the actual design is relatively simple That stock image is in a blog post So, it's a very simple design, something to keep in mind as you go on designing your own site ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 Now, here's another image This is very interesting You'll notice on this site, that there's beautiful colors and it's something you might work towards later, but if you take a look at the right side, where it says "ask Evan, ask me a dating question," on your first version of your site, that could just be a text link You don't need the fancy colors and images when you first start off Your users will find it, and later once you're drowning in revenue and you want to reinvest it to make your business even better, then you can go about getting it redesigned Number 3: One to five published blog posts Now, contrary to popular belief, we don't need a ton of material on your website to get started on promotion Here's one of my students who said, "Yeah, but I feel weird about reaching out I have only one post up I'm afraid of making a fool of myself." I would encourage you to change your frame If your material is good, don't punish the market Don't make them wait for you to write everything before you get it out there Start by putting one amazing piece up, let people get used to it, let them start to like you, and give them an opportunity to opt in Now, as I said, I've seen sites that have no content, but a blog post saying "here's the awesome stuff to expect when you sign up," that's a very clever strategy to just get started You will not see tens of thousands of options, but you will start to see a trickle, and that's what gets you going Momentum matters at this stage Number 4: I cannot overstate this enough, so we're going to spend a couple of of minutes here, on an email opt-in form Now, I cannot recommend this enough, because building an email list is one of the best business moves you'll ever make This slide alone, two years from now when you come back and review this, you'll realize how much this slide has earned you in direct revenue Now, I would rather own the relationship than the first sale Let me explain what that means There's a reason why I not sell directly from my site, and there's a reason that I encourage you not to when you first start that either That is, I would rather own the relationship than the first sale What that means is, it's more important for me to have a relationship with my students, my customers, etc., than just to quickly extract a few dollars here or there That's because I know I can forgo making a little bit of money up front, knowing that I have such as strong back end system, that over time I will earn 10, 20, so, or even 100 times more if I maintain that relationship Let me give you an example Somebody could come to my website and if I sold something from there, let's say in 100 or more like in 1000 might buy something from the site That's fine, it would make me some money Fine Let's say I only give people the option ofjoining my email list Now, I own that relationship I've direct contact with them, and even if they forget about my material, they gave me their email address, and they welcome me into their inbox Now, I can send them amazing material, build trust, and not only promote one course, but promote let's say 20 courses over the next three years When that happens, what you think happens to my average revenue per visitor? It goes way up That's why it's critical to use email to communicate with your students, fans, and readers Notice that you own that relationship It's not going to disappear overnight if Facebook or some other intermediary changes their rules We've seen that happen time and time again I can also tell you that email subscribers are way higher quality than drive- ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 by traffic By asking them to commit by entering their name and email address, that is a profoundly different quality of user than someone who's just on the site browsing and leaves We call that drive-by traffic The difference can often be 10ooX Just think about it from your own mind If you went to a website, and you're kind of just browsing around, what's your likelihood of buying something? Versus, you go to a website, fall in love with the material, click a few times, read a few articles, and say, "You know what? I really like this person I'm going to enter my name and email so that I hear more from them and really engage with the material." How much more likely are you to buy from that person? As we've seen in our own models, that number can be 1000 times different Finally you can use email to build an ongoing relationship with your subscribers It's not a one-time thing that they happen to stumble across your site on their lunch break It's something you can reach out to them actively through and communicate and build a real relationship A good way to think about this is how you feel when you see one of my emails in your inbox If I'm doing my job right, you say, "Oh, okay Ramit's writing me again Let's see what kind of funny story he has today Or what's he talking about today? Oh, social skills? Oh, health and fitness? Oh, personal finance? Let me see what this weird guy has to say." Curiosity, engagement, enthusiasm These are things you can get through an email relationship, not as easily through a web-only relationship And I want to quickly tell you why this is so important to me I remember years and years ago I was sitting in a Taqueria with one of my friends My site was a lot smaller back then I had about so,ooo people on my email list I remember talking business with one of my friends She said to me, "You know, ifl had a site like yours with an email list like yours, I would be making a million dollars a year." I looked at her blankly I just didn't believe her And years later, I realize how correct she was The funny thing was, I had not made email a priority at all In fact, I had years of writing my blog with no email list Those years cost me millions of dollars, but I learned my lesson You can learn that lesson as well, without the heartache and heartbreak that I went through Start your email list today, and having an email opt-in form is the way to that Your opt-in copy is critical This is what makes people decide to join your email list or not Now, you'll see "best practices" online, where people tell you to promise a gift "Join my email list, and you'll get this seven-parte-book about X, Y, Z." Now that's good, and it does improve conversion rates in general, but it's not something you need on your first version You do, however, need to explain why people should join your list and what they will get If you're stuck on this, go back to your Profit Playbook exercise This is the beauty of the Zero to Launch system If you ever get stuck at any stage, you can go back and re-review the material you've already created and build from there For example, if someone offered you a crunchy solution to your burning pain, wouldn't you listen? Let me give you an example here Let's say you are in the productivity space Instead of saying, "Join my email list to get tips and tactics about productivity," which sounds ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 really boring, you might say, "Get the three-step process I used to squeeze in minutes of productivity every morning." If you're in personal finance, you could say, "Join to get my 12-minute guide on automating your finances." That's something I've used myself Or if you are a coach, you could say, "Learn how I used meditation to go from jealous to free." Notice how you don't have to make a promise about a specific piece of content, but you're going to talk about what they are going to get It's very you-focused Now let me show you some examples of opt-in copy from around the web Here is the Thesis website Notice this, the free ebook, "How Nonverbal Website Communication Gets You Sales and Subscribers In this free 33-page report, you'll discover bullet point, bullet point, bullet point." So, several clever things happening here Again, you don't have to all of these, or even any of them But I want to show you some very clever examples from around the web First, let's notice the screenshot on the left Now does it really look like that? I have no idea But in this case, in general, an image right here will improve conversion rates because an image conveys higher perceived value Notice that the first two words are "free ebook." "Free" has been proven to get more response than typically not including it Notice that it says how blah, blah, blah gets you sales and subscribers This is extremely clever because ultimately, the readers here don't really care about non-verbal website communication What they care about? They care about sales and subscribers Then you'll notice, "Wow! 33 page report!" Again, don't get caught up on the number You don't have to have a 33 page report, or even a page report What they're doing here is over-delivering on quantity of content, another high competence trigger for people to opt in So, again, you don't have to all or even any of these things, but I wanted to diagnose this for you, so you can see what some of the bigger players in the market are doing Here's another example One of my students set this up using the Genesis theme, and he set it up in no time at all No technology knowledge, so it's very simple from the set Let's take a look at this "The Ultimate Guide To Creating Bulletproof Habits This free, 22 page e-book will help you save at least an hour a day." Now, I think if you look at this, you can probably find some areas to improve on the copy I know I certainly can But the fact is, it's good enough He got it up there, and he started getting opt-ins That's what matters You can always tweak the copy later So, don't worry about all there Just get it up for now Let's finally talk about the About and Contact pages that I'd like to have you put up On your Contact page, Word Press can help you generate a standard contact form, or you can just say "email me at blahblah.com." That's what I did Your About page, this is something I'd like you to spend a little bit of time on Nobody cares about your history of being born under a palm tree Nobody cares about that Focus on them This is a little unusual, because an About page should theoretically be about you But the way I think about it, is an About page is only about you inasmuch as they care So, if I'm going to a site that's going to help me build muscle, I'm going to go to the About page, look at this guy's picture, and hear his story about how he struggled, how he learned to X, Y, and not have to Z, and what he can for me The About page is not your diary, it's ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM of 12 not your journal from high school It's only a way to convey a way why you are the right person for them If you are really clever, you can add and opt-in form to the about page which can prove to be surprisingly profitable for opt-ins Let me show you some great examples of About pages I consider Derek Halpern (he's one of my friends) to be the best About pages anywhere online It's extremely simple Notice that it says, "Here's what Social Triggers is all about," not "here's what Derek Halpern is all about" [rather it's] "here's what Social Triggers is all about." Notice there is only one photo, so you can quickly get a sense of who this guy is, and then look how he goes into his copy It is extremely clever "Hey, what's up? I'm Derek Halpern, the founder of Social Triggers, and if you've ever asked yourself bullet point, bullet point, bullet point." Okay, what's going on in this About page? I want to show you the bottom of it, and then we're going to diagnose this page This page goes on to say, "Here's the deal, here's what you get Sign up!" So, there's a signup form at the bottom of his about page Very clever A couple of things I want emphasize on this About page Number 1: Do not plagiarize this page or any pages I've shown you Let's instead, take away the theory and apply it to ourselves If anybody's caught plagiarizing these pages, it's just not good business, and everyone out there is monitoring other peoples' pages for plagiarism Don't it Let's not even get anywhere near ethical questions like this Learn the theory, apply it to your own business You'll be so much better for it When we learn these principles, let me diagnose these for you First of all, he's sharing his story about why he started Social Triggers Very brief, like one paragraph Second, he's explaining to the reader why his interest and background are relevant to them And then, BAM, opt-in form That's it Very simple, but profoundly different from most people's About pages This doesn't have to be long, but it does have to serve the reader You can all ofthis yow·self You don't need a professional copywriter You don't even need an eye for design This needs to be effective, not beautiful I can tell you, I showed you one example of Fi.rstClassFlye.r.com, but I know many examples of sites that are horrifically ugly, and they generate huge amounts of revenue every year That's revenue that can be put back into the business It can be building new products, or hiring people to help with the research If you want, you can design, but don't try to be 40 before you're 40 Remember that you can change everything later, even your site name, although I don't encourage it So just keep in mind the whole emphasis of this lesson is: Don't try to everything right now Get it up, get it to be "good enough," and then we will improve it later Avoid perfectionism as much as possible Know that you can and will improve it over time but let the market tell you that Don't try to sit and retreat into your office for six months to build the world's most beautiful website Chances are it doesn't really matter Here's the big picture You're going to create superlative content and smart promotion to get in front of readers but ultimately you have to get them ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM 10 of 12 back to your site That's why it matters Our goal here is to make our website function in our business system It's not about how good of a person we are Meaning, "oh, she has a better website than me so shes a better person." Not true Like I said there are many people with ugly websites who are doing great service by helping the world They just didn't put a priority on design and neither did their customers Our goal with the website is simple and singular It is to get people who visit the site to join our email list That's it We're not talking about branding, we're not talking about all these credibility markers right now We're simply trying to get people, who come to this site, to opt in And the beautiful part about this, I love this, is now you have a backend system to funnel traffic to This is so important You have the links of your chain starting to fall in place It's kind of like an athlete trusting his teammate, or let's say you have your significant other and you can just hand your bag over your shoulder and know that the person will be there to catch it or hold it for you That kind of trust is something beautiful Whether it's in a personal relationships or business so I know for example that I can write a piece on someone else's site and if I simply put a link to my site, traffic will go there because I have an opt-in form Traffic will convert and, because I have email funnels and all kinds of other business systems set up, people will end up joining my courses You see the beauty of it? It's all about microsystems I'm not sitting there fiddling with the switches every day I've built the system once, now it works So final thoughts here Resist the temptation here to be a perfectionist or to hire it out I strongly recommend you set this up yourself It's not that hard We found in testing that students were surprisingly adept at getting these websites up Now keep in mind that I still get stuck on even the simplest technical tasks That is normal If you get stuck on something, don't give up I strongly discourage you from hiring it out Come to the ZTL community We've got help here for you Just let us know what the problem is and there will be lots and lots of people who can help you out Remember to embrace where you are at your stage of your business and don't try to be 40 before you're 40 Just to give you a quick sense of what I mean by this Lets take a look at the next version of my site This version of my website was actually live for many, many years Lets just quickly diagnose what's going on here You'll notice that I have a horrific photo on the right That was probably the #1 complaint I got People were like, "What, are you a frog? Are you a human being? And what is up with those eyebrows?" So that was bad If you look at the top right where it says "Getting Started." I had a description It says, "This is a blog on personal finance, banking, saving, budgeting, and investing, and personal entrepreneurship." ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM 11 of 12 I hate the majority of those words Saving, budgeting I don't even like to use those words anymore But this was up for years until I evolved my philosophy However what you will note is that the actual content, where it says, "Isn't it easy to point at someone really successful?" That is pretty good That is what got me to stand the test of time I produced remarkable content versus fiddling around with my design for all time So, action step number I'm gonna give you 10 hours recommended on this Get your website up and running We're including specific resources so you can get your pages up and start publishing your posts right now And action step number I would like you to block off to 10 hours a week for this one Once your site is up, start implementing your traffic strategy of content and promotion If you're not sure exactly how to this, don't worry I've got you covered Refer back to the previous presentation where I show you exactly how to go about doing this and remember now is when the long game starts Be patient, stay consistent, and if you have any questions or hangups on any of the material relating to your website or content and promotion, we're here for you Come to the community, ask your question, and we will be here to help you through every step of the way ZEROT O LAll NCHSYSTEM.COM 12 of 12 ... going to be 40 or so or 6o or however old Why not embrace the life stage we're at?
