pneumatically or centrifugally accelerated and forcefully directed against a surface These high speed abrasive particles remove contaminants from the material’s surface and condition the surface for subsequent finishing The components are black, scatched and mucky Shot blasting is a fabulous process to give the desired finish to critical components than using different technology It still remains one of the lesser known processes but an important one It is normally done on concrete or metal surfaces While similar to a sandblasting process, shot blasting is very After shot blasting, it looks almost brand much different in the way it is executed new components and exhibiting effectiveness Almost every industry that uses metal including aerospace, automotive, construction, foundry, ship-building, rail, and many others makes use of shot blasting Shot blasting over conventional sand blasting Steel beads are “shot” inside a machine onto the component to clean it in an industrial manner To begin, you load the machine with the beads or shot pellets The beads “blast” off any stains embedded on the components that can’t be removed through normal cleaning methods Typical shot blasting application includes: • Roughening surfaces in preparation for thermal spraying, painting, bonding or other coating operations • • • • Removing rust, scale, sand, or paint Providing a matte surface finish Removing flash from molded components Cosmetic surface enhancement or etching The steel is cleaned to bare white metal giving the best possible surface essential for the application There are various different types of shot blasting machines Some machines are considered “ride-on” machines similar to a tractor The machines are available in different types and sizes The great thing about shot blasting is that there is hardly any dust or cleanup involved in the process Quality Spares Centre is one of the few names to offer a vast and qualitative range of industrial steel abrasive products Committed to follow fair business practices, they have earned the desired goodwill in the market Being unaware here-in-before, the auto components industries have been using the sand blasting medium for surface treatment of components such as nuts, bolts, screws, clutch plates etc etc By evolving a new technique, the company has accomplished this function by using shot blasting process in place of sand blasting For more details, contact: Quality Spares Centre Plot No 53, Sector 27A, Faridabad - 121003 M: 9811083740/9555008000 E: rajansikka64@yahoo.com EC fans for efficient cooling towers C ooling towers are used for cooling processes, installations, data centers and buildings The ebm-papst range now includes axial and centrifugal fans with the appropriate corrosion protection specifically for such applications Fans dissipate surplus and non-usable heat to the ambient atmosphere A high air flow rate is required for this purpose The efficiency is becoming an ever more important criterion, as energy consumption is a significant factor in terms of operating costs robust fan design with a special coating for metal parts and electronic circuit boards is essential ebm-papst fans for cooling towers are rigorously checked in various tests (thermal cycling/ wet test, salt fog test, highly accelerated lifetime (HALT) testing, shock and vibration tests), and are thus ideally equipped to provide reliable operation in cooling towers The noise level is another reason for using EC technology, as outdoor installations are subject to maximum noise generation regulations in many countries Reducing the speed to half air flow cuts the noise level of GreenTech EC fans by 15 dB(A), whereas an improvement of only dB(A) is attained with AC fans EC technology marches on The advantages of EC technology, namely efficiency, infinitely variable demand-based control characteristics, and uncomplicated operating state monitoring via MODBUS RTU, guarantee a rapid return on investments For use in cooling towers, for example, the ebm-papst portfolio contains a new axial fan with double flange housing of size 1,250 mm, which is particularly suitable for high pressure ranges and is already available for delivery FanGrid as the ultimate solution The fans are excellently suited to use in FanGrid arrangement, in other words in a system of centrifugal or axial fans operating in parallel This offers the advantages of a better air flow through the cooling tower and quick and easy fan replacement Operational reliability is an essential prerequisite for cooling towers With an appropriate number of fans, the necessary air flow can always be attained even if one fan is out of operation (redundancy) The speed of the other fans is then simply increased to compensate for the missing air quantity, and the same flow through the cooling tower can be maintained Fans withstand corrosion and wear The extremely harsh ambient conditions with 100 per cent humidity in combination with high temperatures inevitably lead to corrosion and a high degree of wear So, a particularly 50 For more details, visit: www.ebmpapst.com February 2019 n OEM Update Brand report US testing association certifies EC fans A Chief Executive Peter Fenkl (right) shares the awards from TÜV and the US testing association with Laboratory Director Achim Kärcher in the world’s largest combined air and hemi-anechoic chamber MCA, the not-for-profit association which monitors standards and certifications of ventilation technology systems worldwide, has given its certification of the consistent credibility to Ziehl-Abegg for its data on air performance and energy consumption for energy-saving EC fans At its headquarters in Germany, the company operates one of the world’s largest combined air and hemi-anechoic chamber for fans “This is a tribute to our long-term commitment to reliability and accuracy of measurement data,” says Vikas Kundra, Managing Director of Ziehl-Abegg India The certification of the EC fans is a great contribution to the long awaited certification of the company’s AC products Both certifications attest to Ziehl-Abegg’s position as a technological leader in aerodynamic and energy-saving fans With a high level of vertical integration in manufacturing, the company produces fans made of steel, aluminium and composite material The modern energy-saving fans are powered by external rotor motors with integrated control electronics – the external rotor technology was developed by the founder of the company, Emil Ziehl “When EC fans are installed by our customers they must be able to have total confidence in the quoted measurement values” says Kundra In many installation situations, the individual measurement values for EC motor and ventilator can no longer be measured as they become lost in the overall system “This is why we have been operating the world’s largest combined measurement and test chamber for fans in Künzelsau, Germany since 2008,” explains the Managing Director State-of-the-art, high-precision measuring instruments, plus regular training for employees, combined with regular inspections by external organisations such as AMCA or TÜV, are quite costly “But in the interest of providing credible measurement data this is not an area in which we cut corners,” emphasises Kundra Cost-effective burner
