Geese have a sort of internal compass that tells them where to go *GPS: Global Positioning System We also use landmarks to show us the way! You will need: Extra things for testing: books bubble wrap toy cars mixed paper felt cardboard sheets coloured tape sand paper Make the ramp: Stick some coloured tape on the cardboard to make lanes What happens when the slope is not very steep? How far the cars travel? Stack the books up and prop the cardboard sheet on the books 38 Now stack more books and make the slope steeper What happens to the cars now? Experiment Test different materials: Touch the different materials Are they smooth or rough? Are they bumpy? Which surface you think the cars will travel down fastest? Or slowest? Now test your cars on the ramp Did you get it right? Friction Which shape rolls the best? Friction is when one object rubs against another object and stops it from moving so quickly Now you’ve tried a car, how about trying some other objects? Help Kaz find her way home She needs to pick up a letter from her grandma’s house and post it before getting home Trace her journey back Grandma’s house Kaz’s house answers p.44 43 Journey to my plate Where you think your food comes from? courgette eggs halloumi cheese coriander 44 Recipe by Maggie Li You will need yoghurt For the fritters: medium courgettes, grated spring onion, chopped garlic clove, crushed Zest of limes 50g self-raising flour egg, lightly beaten tsp ground coriander 100g halloumi or feta, chopped or crumbled About 100ml coconut or vegetable oil, for frying Sea salt and black pepper For the yoghurt: cup yoghurt tsp lime handful chopped mint lime tomato Recipe Courgette and halloumi fritters with mint yoghurt How to: Mix all the ingredients together for the mint yoghurt and pop in the fridge Put the grated courgettes in a colander and sprinkle with salt Leave for 30 minutes then squeeze out most of the water In a bowl, add the courgettes, spring onion, garlic, lime zest, flour, egg, dried coriander and some black pepper Mix well Add the halloumi or feta and mix gently Get an adult to heat up the oil in a large frying pan Once hot, spoon the batter into the pan and flatten a little Cook for about mins on each side Eat warm with the mint yoghurt! 45 OKIDO POST Welcome OKIDO readers!
