designing one with the topic “Online dating” Because of up to date development of high-technology, human especially the youth, has more chance to approach to new sources, which could potentially lead to unexpected threats Online dating websites, for instance, are sources helping people find themselves a suitable partner, however, bad guys could take advantages of these sites to bad things that could possibly be scams, kidnappings or even murders Pham Minh Anh GDH16065 U31 Visual Narratives 22 December 2017 By the title “ Online love, wise or blind? ”, my advise to the youth is please be alert to virtual loves as they could be used as effective weapons to hurt others spirit and constitution About the zine’s format, it has got 18 pages in total which include 14 body pages, covers and supporting covers There are two main colors in this zine: Caramel brown and reddish pink, as I would like my zine to be friendly to the youth whose styles are quite modern and dreamy Also, all my illustrations are hand drawn and hand-colored with wacom tablet in order to bring relaxation and attraction to readers fonts being used in this zine were Pristina and Minion Pro, one is san-serif with curves and charming lines, the other is modern and neat adjectives describing my zine would be: Cute - Simple Comprehensible About the feedbacks: My target audiences belong to the group from 16 to 22 years old, as they are still very young and maybe lacks of life experiences Unlike European countries, in Asian countries like Vietnam, even one is over 18, he (or she) is still protected and being taken care by the family This fact is a main reason that proves the ability a young person could be make used by bad guys, especially via the Internet, extremely popular means of communication I’ve received feedback on my zine from different persons from 19 to 21 years old, one is over 30 As the issue often happens with female, I had my zine’s feedbacks taken by girls, women and male They are all Vietnamese that live in the capital city where Pham Minh Anh GDH16065 U31 Visual Narratives 22 December 2017 they could easilly approach to dating websites They are mostly student or intern, one is a chef and one is a house wife, which is quite interesting for me as they remained different attitude towards the social problem through my zine For the student and young intern, they are positive and pleased with my zine as they are quite fascinated by the illustrations and style, these lovely features attract them to read the whole story and understand the context, while the house wife had a more serious view about the issue and might think the impact of these artworks were not strong enough to raise awareness of the youth The male paid more attention to technical problems than the context of the zine Relationship between audience context and visual narrative understanding As I have mentioned above, the young student and intern, also the housewife, caught up with the context of the social issue, because they have given feedback to both the story and the visual, even these feedbacks are quite conflicting Having read these feedbacks, I learn a lesson about the relationship between audiences context and visual narratives understanding Different audience contexts such as age, location, job are factors that causes different attitude and awareness towards the issues and also the solutions For instance, middle-aged people often have a grave view on social issues which happens to the youth, also could probably happens to their children If the audiences rightly understood context of a story through visual narratives, it would be easier for them to change their thoughts and behavior That’s why we, as designers, had better generate united and clear visual Having finished the Zine project, I gain some amazing experiences for myself Some skills were well practiced, while others need to be improved Firstly, I am quite pleased with my illustration, mostly for its clear meanings behind the visual It means that these drawings were effectively used as metaphors representing for my message to the audiences Also, as a perfectionist, I always try to take every creative ideas of my own into my design, which easily causes loss of connection between these elements Therefore, this is a good news that I could reduce complicated thoughts and produce a final product which goes straight to the point Secondly, another appreciated point that I found myself happy with is the textes They were applied under the form of short sentences instead of paragraphs to describe the story These sentences were supposed to guide readers from the beginning to the climax and to the end of the story, meanwhile, they make sure the audiences’ ability to acquire the context of visual narrative However, there are still skills that are neccesary to be improved for better work in the future I had better spend more time drawing, especially on perspective practices It is recognizable that my work did not have too much frames applying perspective rule, which could make it a flat and boring work In addition, bad time management skills extended the working process, which really freak me out on the last days before deadline Plans for further development of skills and practice As I have listed the skills I want to improve, I try my best to find Pham Minh Anh GDH16065 U31 Visual Narratives 22 December 2017 solutions for each of them Firstly, to improve drawing skills, I have generated a long-term plan At the beginning, I will learn about solid geometries and then basically apply them on grid paper For the next step, I start with one point perspective which involves a single vanishing point After that, I will move to two point perspective that allow illusion of corners, and three point perspective for seeing objects from above and below Secondly, to make sure my work-load be spread evenly from the first day of a project to the submission date, I will divide the work into seperated parts and set up deadline for each of them Also, I wiill ask someone whether they could help me check my deadline list as a backup plan in case my self-awareness, in the first period of time, will not enough to follow the plan In conclusion, having a chance to self produce a mini magazine about social issues has helped me a lot in developing advantage and recognising disadvantages, and then try to find out ways to deal with them It is absolutely one of the most remarkable projects I have ever did, providing me with helpful experiences to develope my carreer in the
