IN-DEPTH ROLE RESEARCH GRAPHIC DESIGNER WHAT ARE THEY? Graphic design is also known as communication design Graphic designers are visual communicators, who create visual concepts by hand or by using computer software They communicate ideas to inspire, inform, or captivate consumers through both physical and virtual art forms that include images, words, or graphics WHAT DO THEY DO? Graphic designers combine art and technology to communicate ideas through images and the layout of web screens and printed pages They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports with both texts and images Their work follows such steps: 01 Meet with clients or the art director to determine the scope of a project 05 Create designs either by hand or computer software by select colours, images, text style, and layout 02 Advise clients on strategies to reach a paraticular audience 06 Present the design to clients or the art director 03 Determine the message the design should portray & sketch images that identify a product or convey a message 07 Incorporate changes recommended by the clients into the final design 04 Develop graphics and visual or audio images for product illustrations, logos, and websites 08 Review designs for errors before printing or publishing them WHAT IS THEIR MISSION IN CREATIVE INDUSTRY? Work closely with people in advertising and promotions, public relations, and marketing Work on projects with other graphic designers and marketers, business analysts, writers, and programmers Keep up with new and updated computer graphics and design software Collaborate to produce successful websites, publications, and other products Able to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to clients and consumers; produce rough illustrations of design ideas WHAT ARE THEY? An art director is in charge of the visual artistic elements in a production This could be a film, play, animation, or anything else creative where artistic visual effects are used In the advertising industry, an art director is responsible for generating visual concepts in response to clients’ briefs This covers all media platforms, including: • Digital communications, websites, mobile apps and emails • Marketing materials • Press advertising • Television and video • Logos and branding Often working in partnership with a copywriter who produces the written content, the art director will seek to influence changes in audience behaviour through ideas, creativity and the use of media ART DIREC TOR WHAT DO THEY DO? Work with directors of other departments and the head of the project to make sure that the creator’s vision is realized Ensuring a high standard of visual execution across all media and campaigns Translate the targeted mood and message into objectify elements of art and design, and then relay that information to the art team Inspiring and motivating the agency’s clients to be creatively progressive, through the application of fresh and inventive visual work Introducing and applying expert art direction to the visual elements of creative projects Reviewing the work of designers and providing direction and feedback Taking ownership of the visual elements of creative work for new business pitches Uncovering new ways to incorporate emerging and new media formats into campaigns WHAT ARE THEIR REQUIREMENTS?
