2/2/2019 More and more people want to buy famous brands of clothes, car and other items Why is it? Do you think it is a positive or negative development? It is true that deluxe brands like Versace or Apple are becoming favoured by an ever increasingly number of people The main reasons for this consumption behaviour are that these brand conscious consumers assume products made by world-famous brands are of very high quality and give them their desired social acceptance Such a fanatical belief as this, I think, should be dissuaded There are two common explanations for this phenomenon Firstly, shoppers hold a majority opinion that products made by luxury brands like Apple or Mercedes undoubtedly possess top quality of long lifetime, for they are made of best materials and equipped with cutting-edge technologies Secondly, this type of goods is supposed by customers to lift them to a higher social level; because, besides its supposedly superior quality, many famous figures wear and use them on mass media or red carpet; thereby setting a universal trend and notion among audiences I believe this development is irrational and therefore should be discouraged From a personal perspective, running after expensive brands, which not necessarily have better quality compared to other affordable brands like Samsung or Toyota, develops a habit of only caring about and valuing eye-catching things and material possessions which superficialize and deteriorate their shopaholics Another argument is that these deluxe products are so pricey that might leave their young fans a shaky financial future, in the form of debts or lack of money for buying a proper house or starting a family In terms of economics, this preference of buyers will inhibit the growth of local or small-scale businesses For example, if Vietnamese buyers prefer Iphone over Bphone (a new Vietnamese smartphone brand), this general choice could slow down the national wealth In conclusion, buying high end brands itself is not blameworthy but when it slips into a blind subcultural prejudice, it should be discouraged Rephrase: Famous brands = deluxe brands = world-famous brands = high end brands Blind prejudice = fanatical belief = behaviour Money is no object This trend leads to superficial personal judgement based on material possessions, social status/social ladder
