SHARPEN YOUR TACTICS!

1125 Brilliant Sacrifices, Combinations, and Studies

by

Anatoly Lein — International Grandmaster

Trang 3

Welcome to Sharpen your Tactics! You will find within these pages 1125 examples-—starting with simple mates and progressing to some of the most difficult and beautiful combinations ever played The reader will be delighted to play through hundreds of examples never previously published in the west Presented here for the first time are the personal favorites of Russian master

Boris Archangelsky and Grandmaster Anatoly Lein, with numerous examples

from the old Soviet Union

Sharpen your Tactics! is for every class of chess player The examples are rated by difficulty, with the one-star examples being the easiest, and four-star

examples the most difficult Experienced players will be able to solve most of the one and two-star examples, but the three and four-star problems should be

played through on your board when studied for the first time The problems

gradually get more difficult as you move through the book

It is important that the student not spend too much time trying to solve each problem, particularly the three and four-star examples, which are not all forced Far better 1s to spend five to ten minutes per example If the answer is not apparent to you, simply look it up, try to remember the idea(s) and keep moving Having

once seen the solution, you will remember it the next time this theme comes up

in one of your own games The point is to see as many ideas as you can in the shortest possible time You will be astounded at the improvement you make as

you go through the book a second and third time These patterns are occurring

over and over again in your games, and right now is the time to start learning to see and take advantage of them Begin going through the book now, and
