Department of Industry, Science and Technology GPO Box 9839 Canberra ACT 2601 or Fax to (06) 276 2188 ABOUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE The Austrafian S&T Communicators Register is a continuing project of the S&T Awareness Program of the Department of Industry, Science and Technology The purpose of the Register is to enhance cooperation, stimulate ideas and encourage the development of networks among S&T communicators in Australia The 3rd Edition of the Register was published in September 1994, and an addendum will be published in May 1995, to keep it up-to-date This Questionnaire provides the data required for us to include you and your S&T communication projects in the Register In completing the questionnaire, please ensure that you restrict your information (including punctuation) to the number of spaces provided This is because the form is used to enter the information into a data base The number of spaces shown in the questionnaire is the same as the field size in the data base PEOPLE The People Section of the Register provides information on people working in areas relevant to science and technology communication ALL Intrested in all of the foregoing You may use more than one code, but the number is limited to the space for this heading in the questionnaire Expertise is to give your areas of particular expertise For example: education; physics; computing; journalism; social sciences You may include as many areas as will fit in the space provided (i.e 48 characters including punctuation) Comments is for any other comments which you would like to add Comments may relate to the questionnaire, to the Register, or to general issues in S&T communication You may wish to suggest other people to whom we could send questionnaires Information you submit for this heading will not be printed in the Register PROJECTS S&T Communication Projects encompass a range of activities, from gender equity projects, to theatrical productions and awards for journalism Projects may include the work of individuals or groups, through to activities which involve people allover Australia and internationally You need to fill out a separate fonn (headed Project Description) for each of your projects Projects may be given multiple codes; for instance EDU HOA describes an educational project which uses hands-on activities Purpose: Here you need to indicate the reason for your S&T communication project There is only room in the database field for 156 characters, including spacing and punctuation For example: To cultivate interest in science in Year 9-10 students Description: The description is your opportunity to describe aspects of your project which can provide more detailed information for the reader There is plenty of space for you to describe how your project works Please explain clearly so that readers can get a good idea of your project For example: Three different strategies are used in this project We conduct Saturday optional classes for Grade girls; a pupil-tutor scheme operates in the school; several 1O-minute videos have been made for use with senior pupils and parent groups QUESTIONNAIRE The Australian Science and Technology
