Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:  Develop reading skills as scanning for specific information and guessing meaning in context.  Use the information they have read to discuss the Asian Games. II. Teacher and students’ preparation:  Textbooks, pictures, poster, handouts.  Work arrangement: individually, pair work, group work III. Procedure : (45’) TIME (mins) CONTENT TEACHER AND STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES 7’ I. CHECKING: Reduce these sentences by using participles or to infinitives 1.This is the second novel which was written by this famous writer. 2.The man who sat next to me on the train looked gentle. 3.The steam engine which was invented by James Watt opened a new period in human development history. 4.I knew then that I was not the first person who came at that time. I. CHECKING: • T sticks a poster with a given exercise on the board. • T calls 2 sts to do this exercise by writing their answers on the board. • T asks other sts to give comments. • T’s corrections. • T marks these 2 sts. 7’ II. WARM UP: II. WARM UP: • T sticks 5 pictures showing 5 kinds of sports on the board. • T gets sts to name the sports shown in the pictures. • Then T gets sts to name all sports they know and asks them to tell what they know about these sports. For example: 1. Are these sports indoor or outdoor sports? 2. Are they played individually or in teams? 3. Who are the famous players of these sports? Suggested Answer: 1. Swimming: individually, Brooke Abel, Nathan Adrian. 2. Chess: indoor, individually, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, 3. Football: outdoor, Pele, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo. 4. Table tennis: indoor, individually, Zhang Yining, Timo Boll, Chiang Peng Lung. 5. Volley ball: indoor and outdoor, in teams, Logan Tom, Karch Kiraly - T asks sts some questions: a. Do you often watch sports events on TV? 3’ 7’ II. NEW LESSON: A. Pre-reading 1. Introduction:(before you read) EXPECTED ANSWER: 1. They are held every four years. 2. It depends on the Games. For examples, in the first Games held in India in 1951 only 11 countries took part in the Games but in the 14 th Asian Games the number of countries taking part in the Games was 44. 3. Vietnam is best at billiards, body building and karatedo. 2.
