While Rabobank has stated that concerns over food safety and supply problems are likely to hit exports and lead to a rise in imports, particularly from the US, Australia and China, Jean-Yves Chow, a senior industry analyst for North-east Asia at Rabobanks Food and Agri Research Department and the lead author of the report, remarked, The radiation issues at the Fukushima plant have heightened food safety concerns at a time when Japanese food self-sufciency is already low Japan may need to revise its food security strategy in order to manage the countrys risk.
