The difficulties and solution inteaching and learning English through listening Presented by: Manly I. Introdution We are studying and teaching English in a country where English is considered as foreign language. So we don’t have many people who speak native English and we are not used to speaking as well as listening native English daily. There are a lot of factors that effect on teaching and learning a foreign language especially English. Today, I would like to discuss on some difficulties and solution inteaching and learning English through listening. II. Discussion As we know, like reading, listening is a receptive skill where the purpose is to comprehend or understand what someone else might be saying. There fore, when teachinglistening there are some difficulties occured. Firstly Firstly , , Vietnamese has different sound system from English. We don’t have /s/,/Ө/ sound at the end of any words Students also get difficulties with multi – syllabic words, stress ( words stress, sentence stress), pronouncing the last consonants, linking sounds and consonant clusters. Hence, students find hard to get information when they are listening. To solve this problem, the teachers must be emphasized on teaching phonology carefully and be sure that students are well-educated in phonology. Secondly, Secondly, lacking of knowledge of vocabulary and culture relates to getting information inlistening comprehension. Shortage of vocabulary barriers students from getting information. When listening they have to stop to think as they meet new words and then they will miss the next information. The speaking speech and the voice of native speaker which make a big hole to understand the context. I deal with the accent, intonation, stress, assimilation, elision and epenthesis. We really know that even people from parts of a country have problem while listening to the others. In order to solve this, students themselves should practice listening everyday using tape recorder, CD player or from the radio, TV news . and when they are listening they should aim on the main idea and sometimes neglect some words to guess the main idea. Thirdly, Thirdly, students’s mood is a big problem with them during the process of perceiveing and reacting upon the information. The learners can not keep on the information, the speed of speaking when they feel nervous, unconfident or unself-controled. That means they can not get the following information. They fail in listening. The teachers should let students be in a good mood, in a listening environment. Students must be familiar with the topic that they are going to listen. Finally, Finally, the material facilities, teaching document ( even teaching method) and language environment may take a big influence on the result of teaching and learning English through listening. Students are not approached the modern technology equipments, over crowded classes and different level of students also make dificulties to the teacher and students to carry out a listening lesson. The consultants and experts should give suitable teaching document and the teachers should use useful methods to teach students. The school leaders should pay more attention to the facilities. They must equip classrooms with enough modern devices. In conclusion, to achieve a sucessful teaching language lesson needs not only efforts from the teachers and students but also teaching document and facilities. I’ve shown some difficulties inteaching and learning English which occur during my teaching process and I also have given some suggested solutions. I would like to get your support to complete my topic today. III. Conclusion. . difficulties and solution in teaching and learning English through listening Presented by: Manly I.
