TALKSHOW Script - Host – Tuyết HR Management A -Nga Journalist B – Ánh or Trang Student C – the rest Host: Good evening and welcome to The Daily Talk Today we’re gonna be talking about integration – not new but still a hot topic With the help of our special guests – Ms A – HR management of …, MS B- the journalist of … and C- a fresh graduate from NEU First off, lets take a look This is the list of the most 15 desirable workplaces in VN and more than half are multinational companies So C, what you think ? Student: actually working for such companies is my goal so i’ve soon tried out for an internnship in a multinational enterprise But its pretty hard for me to adapt to that environment, they are too different Host: I see, lots of vietnamese graduates face that problem so with the topic of cultural integration, we have experts here to help us tackle it Scene : Host: Firstly, what is multicultural working environment? It is a place where we share our working place with people from diverse backgrounds and nations Thats why students need to prepare many things in order to integrate successfully But due to the limited time, we just focus on factors including communication skills and working attitude In terms of communication skills, what should our students to improve these skills, Ms B? HR Manager: I would say that language barrier is the most conspicuous problem for the majority of students Eliminating this shortcoming is a must for sucessful integration My recommendation is that students should learn foreign languages asap no matter how you it… Thats what I want to show you … 5.9/9 is the average result of Vietnamese people in the ielts exam, rank at 7th in Asian area ( need supporting idea => contrast ) Host: Does language make it difficult for you to blend in multicultural environment? (???) Student: Not really, I’ve got 6.5 in the ietls test and Im confident about that HR Manager: I’ve worked with many people like you, high scores in English tests but they are not actually fluent in speaking english They just try to get good marks instead of having actual oral ability So, I suggest that you’d better get experience from interaction with foreigners… Tourguide or teaching assistant would suit you Jounalist: I agree but I have something to add Just a small number of people can speak more than languages (data) They dont know that they are losing opportunities when VN has become a hub of many international investments, especially Japan and South Korea So, its better to be multilingual Host: Thank you, anything you want to share about communication skills? Jounalist: I want to highlight the importance of non verbal communication For example, the Western tend to shake hands for greeting, while the Japanese often avoid physical contact Those customs are easily found in magazine, books and movies Student: Thats right, the understanding of cultural differences is essential to be engaged in global community Host: Apart from communication, you also need to pay attention to working attitude HR Manager: Vietnamese teamwork skills aren’t really good When working in a team, people tend to be inactive and follow the idea of the group This can not innovate ideas, and teamwork, therefore, just waste of time Host: Right, it is admitted that Vietnamese ppl can work more efficient IF THEY WORK ALONE On the screen is a funny description by the director of Vietnam Japan HR Cooperation Center in Hanoi (VJCC) Jounalist: Employers aren’t extremely satisfied with Vietnamese candidates due to their insufficient teamwork skills while the Japanese often make a good impression with their technique After a long time working with Japanese people, I learnt from them a teamwork rule called houRen-sou It means Report-Contact and Discuss during the project When you get stuck in your steps, intead of trying it yourself, you’re advised to report and contact the leader, then finally, find the solutions together Student: Oh, that’s great for teamworking But to me, I find it hard to speak out because I am afraid of being criticized Jounalist: Avoiding cricticism in teamworking is not a wise choice You should admit your mistakes, your weaknesses, and your concerns without fear of reprisal – this is the advise from Patrick Lencioni in The five dysfunctions of a team: A Leadership Fable Remember: “If anything goes bad, I did it If anything goes semi-good, we did it If anything goes really good, then you did it That’s all it takes to get ppl to win football games for you.” Host: Thank you very much, Ms (Journalist) Well, it’s time to wrap up the show So, within very short time, in minutes, we’ve just discussed how Vietnamese graduates can successfully integrate into globalised cooperations students need to overcome language barrier, be active in learning cultural differennces and improve teamwork skills These skills act as a precursor for your integrating plan in the near future Thank you Ms A, Ms B and C for being with us this show and sharing many stories, ideas and advices to many youngers here Thank you everybody for coming here and listening to us I encourage you to think carefully about what we’ve pointed out Hope that all of you will soon blend into a new diverse environment Join us tomorrow on The Daily Talk I’m your host, Pham Anh Tuyet Good bye everyone!
