LESSON PLAN Date of planning: March 8 th , 2008 Guiding teacher: Do Thi Thien Huong Date of delivery: March 13 th , 2008 Student teacher: Nguyen Thi Thu Nhan Unit 12: MUSIC Lesson 2: SPEAKING I. Objectives 1. Educational Aims: help Ss know the diversity of the styles of music 2. Knowledge: a. General Knowledge: Ss can talk about music subject together and talk about the music taste of the others b. Language: 3. Skills: - Asking and answering questions about music - Talking about favorite kinds of music II. Method: communicative approach III. Teaching Aids: extra board, pictures, textbooks IV. Procedures Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 7’ 6’ 1. Warm Up Game: TIK-TAK-TOE - T draws a large nine-square figure on the board and divides the class into 2 groups, the naughts (O) and the crosses (X). Each square numbered has a question about music field. - One group goes first by selecting a number. They will then be given a question. If their answer is right, they occupy that square. The first one to have three right answers in straight line is the winner. 2. Task 1 Instruction: You are going to read what Ha Anh talks about music. Now work in pairs and answer the questions below. - T asks a student to read the passage aloud. - Vocabulary: 1. keep S/O happy: make S/O happy 2. cheer sb up: make sb less sad - T asks Ss to work in pairs to answer the - Work in groups, select a number and answer the question for that number - Read the passage aloud - Work in pairs, answer the 10’ 8’ questions - T calls on some Ss to ask and answer - T asks Ss to write the answers on the board - T checks the answers 3. Task 2 Instruction: In the task, you are going to learn about the music taste of your friends. - T asks Ss what questions they can make to get information they need in the first column of the table - T introduces some adjectives and expressions to talk about music and the importance of music: 1. make sb excited 2. make sb feel relaxed 3. help sb forget troubles and worries 4. peaceful (adj) : thanh than - T tells Ss to work in groups of 3. One of them is the writer who asks and fills in the table. If they finish quickly, T ask them to change their roles - T goes around to observe Ss working - T calls on 2 groups to ask and answer. T corrects mistakes if any 4. Task 3 Instruction: Now report what you have found about your partners in front of the class. Remember to use these expressions: 1. both B and C like… 2. B likes…, but C prefers… 3. B likes…, and so does C. 4. B likes…, and C does, too. 5. B prefers…to… - T calls on some Ss to report what they have found about their partners. - T corrects mistakes after Ss have finished their reports 5. More activity questions - Suggested answers: 1. She likes pop music 2. Because it keeps her happy 3. Her favorite band is the backstreet boys 4. She listens to music all the time - Work in groups and try to find their friends’ taste of music - Suggested questions: 1. What kind of music do you like? 2. Why do you like it? 3. Who is your favorite singer/ band/ musician? 4. What is your favorite song/ piece of music? 5. When do you listen to music? - Report what they have found about their partners, use the expressions which the teacher gives 7’ 6’ 1’ - T asks Ss to work in pairs. Each pair gets two pieces of paper, a passage about the Backstreet Boys and some questions. The person getting the questions asks her partner to get information about the band and to take notes - T goes around for observing - T calls on some pairs to ask and answer about the Backstreet Boys 6. Game - T divides the class into 6 groups - T gives each group a picture of members of the Backstreet Boys and a piece of paper containing their names - T asks them to match the members with their names. Which group finishes first and has all the right answers will be the winner. 7.
