Software Assets A Linux, Apache, MySQL, PhP (LAMP) implementation was created in the 1996-2001 timeframe Generally, the software functionality can be described as follows: A user visits a website and triggers a script The script causes the server to check for the existence of a cookie If no cookie, the user is served a non-user registration ad (Note that the above steps could be conducted on a thin server located at a website’s facility to reduce latency, load on the main server, costs, etc.) If cookie, the user’s account is then queried in the user database Users’ accounts are prepopulated
