GRAMMAR Gap in the fill with a suitable word ( but, however, yet, although, so, therefore): 1. My brother still had a dollar , but he didn’t want to spend it . Gap fill - T divides the class into 2 groups. - The representatives of 2 groups go to the board and write down the answers on the board. - T checks and gives correct answers. - The winner is the group which has more correct answers. - T leads in the new lesson. - T plays the tape, ss listen and repeat. - T calls on some ss to reapeat. - T reads aloud some words and ss say which forms they are. - T models (plays the tape) - Ss repeat. - T calls on some ss to read aloud. - T asks ss to work in pairs to do the task. 2. It was late .Therefore the workers stopped work and left the factory .  BUT, HOWEVER, and YET:  ALTHOUGH / HOWEVER : But / yet / However / Although : co-ordinate conjunctions. They are used to express contrast / concession.  THEREFORE  SO Exercise 1: Add so or but and a comma where appropriate. Examples: It began to rain, so I opened my umbrella. It began to rain, but he didn’t open his umbrella. 1. I didn’t have an umbrella _______________ I got wet. 2. So Exercise 2: Underline the correct alternative in the following sentences: 1. Dan didn’t study for the exam, however/but Lan did. 2.
