Date: 02 / 01 / 09 Unit: Nine; Period: 59 LESSON PLAN ***** A. OBJECTIVES I. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Distinguish the sounds / sp / - / st / and / sk /, pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly. - Distinguish the uses of defining vs. non-defining relative clauses. II. Skills: Practising pronunciation and grammar B. PROCEDURE: I. Settlement (1'): Check Ss' attendance II. Checking (5'): Ask Ss to present their descriptions of the pie chart. III. New lesson: Part E: LANGUAGE FOCUS TEACHER'S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES I. Warm up: (5m) - Give Ss some words and ask them to put the words to the right columns / sp / - / st / and / sk /. - speak, text, ask, Stanley, spacious, school, speedy, best, disk, stop, speech, stand, skill, crisp, dusk. - Lead in to the lesson: Today we are going to learn the pronunciation of above sounds. Now look at your books, listen and repeat the sounds. - Put the words to the right columns / sp /: speak, spacious, speedy, speech, crisp. / st /: text, Stanley, best, stop, stand. / sk /: ask, school, disk, skill, dusk. - Listen and repeat the sounds. II. Pronunciation (8') Pronouncing the three sounds separately - Model the three sounds / sp / - / st / and / sk /, for a few times and explain the differences in producing them. - Play the tape (or read) once for Ss to hear the words containing these three sounds. Then play the tape (or read) again and this time ask Ss to repeat after the tape (or T). Pronouncing words containing the sounds - Read the words in each column all at once - Read the words and ask Ss to repeat them - Ask Ss to practise pronouncing the words in pairs - Go around providing help - Ask some Ss to pronounce the words and give correction if necessary. Practicing sentences containing the target sounds - Ask Ss to work in pairs and take turn to read aloud the given dialogue. - Go around listening and taking notes of the typical errors. - Ask some Ss to read the sentences again and provide corrective feedback - Listen and take notes - Listen and repeat (Whole class, individual work & pair work) - Listen and repeat - Practise pronouncing the words in pairs - Pronounce the words - Work in pairs and take turn to read aloud the given sentences. - Read the sentences III.
